Hebrews 10:26 Explained

Hebrews 10:26 says, "For if we sin willfully after receiving knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins." The verse above seems to actually imply a loss of salvation EVERY TIME a Christian sins. However the case is quite different when read further. Which now, it would be best to read through Hebrews 10:27-29 saying, "But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?"

So why is there the statement of willful sinning? First- sinning is done at free will whether it be ignorance or on purpose. A jaywalker walks across the street at his free will whether or not he knows that he/she has to use the pedestrian lane or not. Likewise, Hebrews 10:26 refers that any sin done by man is being willfully done. Many people despite the fact they have received the knowledge of the truth that salvation is only through the Lord Jesus Christ still deliberately reject Him and continue living their sinful lifestyles as a result of not having faith counted for righteousness (John 3:20).If there is no more sacrifice for sins, that is to refer to the fact "it is finished". A greater problem arises is that there is no more sacrifices for sins, all except but the Lord Jesus Christ's sacrifice, and yet people continue to reject Him as all effective, no works required to get saved or to enter Heaven and have their own means to try and get their sins absolved which involve religious rituals. As a result, their rejection of the Lord Jesus Christ has resulted to what can be seen and manifested as their sinful lifestyles.

Try to take a look at many heretical works salvation preachers, and the ministers followers of false religions for instance. They have received the knowledge that it's a salvation through faith alone on the Lord Jesus Christ yet they spit at it, they step on the blood whenever they teach a works based salvation. Many of them teach that the sacrifice of Jesus is not enough to save a person in whole. Remember, Hebrews 9:11-22 declares the penalty for sins was paid. The precious blood of Jesus was literally applied on the Mercy Seat to remit sins to whosoever will believe. While they accuse people who believe that salvation is by receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior without doing any good works like baptism or living a life obedience are Antinomians or having no regard for morality. However, many of them live an opposite lifestyle especially for those who brag that they've stopped sinning or are holy. Take a good look at the newspapers with the scandals from the Vatican being unearthed thanks to former Roman Catholics who have received the knowledge of the truth of the Gospel and applied it. Take a good look at many television evangelists (many are affiliated with the Vatican while some are against it but are still works-based salvation heretics at best) who live in so much luxury and have different motivations directed only to themselves. Take a good look at how many cultists have an abrasive personality and are highly chaotic individuals or many are even homosexuals either openly or secretly. Take a good look at the corrupt political arenas down to the prison cells filled with many RELIGIOUS people. They just keep on sinning because they reject the Lord Jesus Christ (John 3:18-20). Therefore they by their sinful lives continue to show they reject Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. They were never saved from their sins.

On the other hand, here's a reminder. Christians are saved not because of what they did but by trusting in what God did- that is the unconditional election of the believer. The Lordship of Christ is present in their lives. They have recognized Jesus Christ as Lord (from the Greek word Kurios or Supreme in Authority) during the time they have received Him as their Savior. By trusting in Him alone (which He COMMANDS to all), they have submitted to His Lordship and that's the first step. Submission to His Lordship happens further only by God's grace and by His chastising hand whenever a Christian falls. So here, when a Christian stumbles into sin, God keeps them but He never fails to chastise them (1 Corinthians 5:5, Hebrews 12:5-6).
