Why This Ministry DOES NOT Support the Westboro Baptist Church

The Westboro Baptist Church is a so-called Baptist institution founded by Fred Phelps who is a lawyer and a theologian. Is it your average Baptist assembly or is this another of Satan's brain children? I would like to present my stand why this ministry does not support the Westboro Baptist Church and why as a Baptist, I do not support them either:

The founder Fred Phelps who serves as its pastor. I do find it disturbing he says that he supports sound doctrine of good Christian preachers of the past like John Calvin and Charles Haddon Spurgeon but his doctrine is not sound at all. His preaching is definitely not balanced. While I do appreciate him attacking the Great Whore of Revelation, apostasy, ecumenism, homosexuality, abortion, pornography and a lot of sins however he is no better than the Roman Catholic institution which he frequently criticizes. Although he claims to be a Calvinist and a Spurgeon fan, however many of those who are Calvinist preachers like Paul Washer, John Macarthur and John Piper are very likely against his activities. In fact, many Calvinists are also against what they are doing. Spurgeon.org even calls this group as having crooked theology, well said Bro. Phil Johnson! The Phelps family needs to read their Bible carefully!!!!

What's wrong with them and their doctrine?

First, I would like to say I appreciate their stand on exposing sin as sin and that Roman Catholicism is not in harmony with God's Word exposing its dirty history- however their really EVIL doctrine that just don't agree with God's Word- that is God hates sinners and takes pleasure in getting rid of them. Now only if they read Ezekiel 33:11 saying, "Say unto them, As I live saith the LORD God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn ye turn ye from their evil ways; for why will ye do O house of Israel?" God executes judgment but He does not have pleasure in doing so otherwise He would have actually destroyed everyone because of the truth of the total depravity of man. They are in fact, even more inconsistent with Calvinism's doctrine of unconditional election, limited atonement (remember God DID NOT send Jesus to die for anybody else but human beings and those who needed salvation, He did not die for frogs, cats, etc. because they don't need salvation even if they have souls) and irresistible grace because God will not elect anyone to salvation (much more even allow even the non-elect to get saved since I believe not all saved people are elect but some are, only time will tell who among the saved were elect and who were non-elect) if He hates sinners because NOBODY really deserves salvation much more election from God before they were even born to start with, we all only deserve Hell! Some of God's elect were not even the best- Noah got drunk, Moses was impulsive, Joshua got deceived by the Gibeonites, Rahab was a harlot before she got saved, Samson made very bad choices, Ruth was a Moabite, Isaiah had a dirty mouth, Matthew and Zacchaeus came from the line of tax collectors, Paul was a Pharisee before conversion. Their activities involve picketing funerals, encouraging hatred against lost sinners (ex. encouraging the deaths of homosexuals rather than witnessing to them about the plan of salvation out of love, rebuke is a product of love but never always done out of love) and a lot of hate activities. I am against a lot of things they are against as listed BUT I do not support their high brand of self-righteousness.

I could say this Jesus was tough on sin but not on sinners. Although He did not sin with the tax collectors and the harlots but He extended the good news of salvation of them. Think about the adulterous woman by the well- she has had five ex-husbands and is now in a sinful live-in relationship. In John 4, we read the account. Jesus revealed to the lost woman her sin not to condemn her but to show her the need of repentance and salvation. Yes, He showed the woman her sinfulness but He did it out of love. That is quite different with the God hates you, God hates sinners mentality. Would have God hated sinners, Romans 5:6-8 would again be a lie as it says that God demonstrated His love towards the lost while they were yet sinners, Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 3:23 even says that ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. What is this cult thinking? I have even read through "The Institutes of Christian Religion" by John Calvin, none of the pages of that wonderful books supports the violence and atrocities of the Westboro Baptists. I doubt it Charles Spurgeon if he were alive and kicking would support them- he may even call them as reprobates as bad as those they have condemned. Spurgeon is a Calvinist preacher yes, but he would never support the evils of Fred Phelps.

Many Calvinistic preachers are actually opposed to Westboro Baptist Church directly and indirectly:

In fact, Pastor John Macarthur a Calvinist also write this in "The Gospel According to Jesus" in page 141, I won't write everything but those that would really show that he doesn't support such hateful activities as his message to Christians... I suggest you buy the book and read it entirely:
"God does not call His people to a ministry of inquisition. Now is not the time to rip the tares out. Our mission is not a political or military crusade, and this is not a time of judgment. Moreover we are not called to dole out retribution. We are sent out rather to be ambassadors for Christ, emissaries of His mercy and grace."
"Christians are not to condemn the world or force external reformation upon it though we must preach against its sins. We are commanded to teach the Gospel (Matthew 28:19-20) and live as examples of righteousness. But we are not God's executioners."

Also, I have read some of Pastor Robert Charles Sproul's books such as the "Holiness of God", I really could not find anything from the PEN or MOUTH of Pastor Sproul's works that ever supports the activities of the Westboro Baptist Church. I have read that book and Sproul really shows how we are all cut short of the glory of God. Westboro Baptist Church does the opposite- by saying God hates sinners and they are better than the rest, they actually need to read the book "Holiness of God"! The same goes for Calvinistic pastors like Pastor Paul Washer, Pastor John Piper and Pastor Ray Comfort. I doubt it these guys would go to Westboro Baptist Church and endorse them. Nor would the Southern Baptist conventions support such an evil institution.
