I do advocate pet adoption, not wearing fur (we don't live in Genesis anymore) and stopping cruelty to animals but it's sad how abortion is overlooked. It's hypocritical to say you have a humane society because you have laws against animal cruelty but you endorse abortion. Abortion is in no way humane because it involves killing of human lives.
If the Pharaoh at the beginning of Exodus and Herod the Great started a dreadful abortion campaign by massacring defenseless babies to preserve their power, today their misdeed continues with abortion when governments support it in order to stay in power. It's hypocritical to criticize the pagan civilizations for human sacrifice (and note, many pagan civilization sacrifice babies to their gods) or Herod for ordering the murder of the Jewish babies just to stay in power but to support abortion as a humanitarian activity.
Exodus 21:22-23 gives this verse that gives rights to the unborn child, "If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life," Did you read that properly? If a miscarriage happens due to hurting a pregnant woman, it must be given life for life and that unborn baby was alive. If it was not alive, you cannot kill it like you cannot kill a child's baby doll but you can only destroy it or wreck it but there was no life involved. A child is both destroyed and killed in the process of abortion.
Using one's common sense and general knowledge with scientific facts, one can observe that a fetus is a living person and not just a piece of blob of tissues. If that unborn child were not alive, then it would not be growing, taking nutrients or even kicking inside the womb. These basic proves that the baby in the womb is very much alive. Anybody who says that the baby is just a "blob" really fails big time with basic science. Ultrasound scans from any pregnant woman proves that there is life inside the womb. The only time a baby should be removed from a mother's womb is in the case of death. Otherwise, doing so is a deliberate act of murder. It is killing human life before it has come into the light.
