Running the Race and Looking Forward to Christ's Coming

There's the question of are you moving forward or backward? Are you looking forward to the second coming of Christ? Just think about it that the signs of the times are showing. The biggest sign of the times isn't Middle Eastern conflict, isn't the One World Religion coming - it's all about the spreading of the Gospel! The Great Commission is to be fulfilled. Matthew 24:14 says that the Gospel of Jesus Christ must be spread throughout the Earth as part of the fulfillment of prophecy. Philippians 3:13-15 has beloved Paul's exhortation of running the race and forgetting what's behind. It's very easy to let past successes, good works, wrongdoings, and failures hold anybody back. It's very easy to get complacent in today's comforts or yesterday's good memories. Ecclesiastes 7:10 says to stop thinking about the former days. True, there are the good old days which gives pleasant memories but they can hold anybody back. You can forget about it because

The Hard-to-Believe Truth About Christmas

Christmas means a lot of things for people. If anything, I think that what I hate may not be Christmas itself but the pagan nonsense people get involved with. True, they aren't celebrating Saturnalia or the birthday of Mithra (which may vary from culture to culture) but their actions speak like they're celebrating it. Saturnalia was time for drunkenness and orgies. Today, we've got Christmas parties that end up like they're celebrating the Saturnalia to a certain extent. Some people even attend the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day masses for Roman Catholics. The hypocrisy is also there with once-a-year charities and offering reconciliation only because it's Christmas. But do they know that there's that really hard to believe truth about Christmas? You can consider the reality of the situation. Christmas is enjoyable for the world - only when they celebrate the worldly way. The "Christ" in Christmas means nothing to them. It's no wonder why XMas has

How the Christmas Narrative of Jesus' Birth Contradicts the Worldly View of Christmas

As Christmas Day draws near - I tend to think, "Do I hate Christmas or do I hate the world's view of Christmas?" I thought of how some Puritan writers renounced it like Arthur W. Pink. Charles H. Spurgeon didn't like Christmas but still saw it as an opportunity to reach out to people for Jesus Christ. Personally, I do still have mixed views on Christmas. I do hate the Christmas season because of all the wickedness and stress it brings. However, the blame may be better off to fall on the shoulders of people with a worldly view of Christmas. It's a shame really at how Roman Catholics go to the mass on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The Christmas narrative is read. There's a picture of the Nativity Set. As erroneous as it is to put the three wise men there (since they didn't arrive until sometime later) because they were in a house - not a stable. The Christmas narrative shows the very bitter picture of the first Christmas. I remember all the rage I get wh

Jesus Christ as the Son of David, Son of Mary, Lord of All

As I was reading the Psalms today - I was stuck with Psalm 110. I was thinking of the first line of the said Psalm that says: The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. There are two distinct spellings namely LORD and Lord. LORD in Hebrew means Yahowah, Yahweh, or Jehovah. Lord in Hebrew is spelled out as Adonai. This was a Psalm of David that would describe the Messiah. The fulfillment of the New Testament can be found in Mark 12:37 and Luke 20:44 which people get confused. Jesus affirmed His unique relationship that He was both David's Lord and son (descendant). How can Jesus be in the human incarnation be the Son of David? It was both legally (through Joseph) and biologically (through Mary). David had one son named Solomon and another named Nathan. Why David named his next son with Bathsheba as Nathan was probably in honor of the prophet who convicted him to repent. Joseph had the legal claim but the line of Jehoiachin

Celebrating Christmas While Believing All Religions Lead to God is Blasphemy

I know this can be a very controversial article especially when Christians have had a long history of arguing about Christmas. Some say that Christmas should be dismissed as pagan because of December 25 hits at the Saturnalia. However, Reformation Day hits on October 31 which is the same day as Halloween or for some - the night before All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day in the Roman Catholic calendar. However, festivals similar to Saturnalia don't necessarily hit on December 25. I've tried reading various sources and the birthday of the pagan sun god can vary from culture to culture. Now, we've got the celebration of Christmas going on. Some Christians believe it's okay to celebrate Christmas without the pagan nonsense. Somehow, I dare agree with that even if I personally dislike the Christmas season for all the nonsense people do with it. Yet, I don't judge Christians who use Christmas as a time to get together and use it as an opportunity to do more good. W

Reflections from the Canticle of Mary

It's really sad how born again Christians are termed as Mary haters. I don't hate Mary as the Papists falsely accuse me of. Rather, I hate the wrong doctrines of Mary. I was reading through Matthew and Luke (due to the Christmas season) and decided to meditate upon the Canticle of Mary. The annunciation is a very important event. It would be that time when the eternal Son of God would finally be incarnated in His human form. Luke 1:46-55  And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour . 48 For he hath regarded the low estate of His handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. 49 For He that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is His name. 50 And His mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. 51 He hath shewed strength with His arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them

Are You Moving Forward in Christian Giving?

November is already nearing its end. Who doesn't feel excited about Christmas as December 1 is just a few days away? Some people end up hating Christmas not because they hate Christ. Rather, they hate almost everything associated with Christmas like the stressful lines, inconsiderate people who want justice to be ignored all because it's the season, and not to mention the materialistic associations with Christmas. Christmas ends up occupying the mind of people with, "What gifts will I get?" If they're into gift-giving, they always worry about getting the latest item because the person they're giving it may not want it. A child's view of Christmas is also usually materialistic. Do you ever wonder why there are more decorations of the non-existent Santa Claus over a Nativity scene? Have they forgotten that Jesus is the reason for the season? No wonder the Puritans such as Charles H. Spurgeon had a love-hate relationship with Christmas. A good topic to talk

Please Don't Treat God Like a Genie

Image
There is a well-known quote that says, "Prayer doesn't change God - it changes me!" But how often is it that Christians forget that God is not their personal genie? He's not some magical being that grants wishes taken straight from Middle Eastern mythologies and Islamic superstition. Sure, Jesus Christ is my personal Savior but I'm also His personal servant. It's because He is my personal Lord and Savior and not one without the other. He may be my Savior but it's only because He is my Lord. If your Jesus is not Lord then you really aren't saved. You better make sure your Jesus is Lord or you aren't saved. I was thinking about one of the reasons why I nearly became an atheist while I was still a Roman Catholic. I could remember why I threw a stone at the altar with "Mama Mary" on it because I was treating it like a genie. I remembered getting mad at God because I treated Him like a genie. But if he's a genie then he must grant almost

Moving Forward by Going Beyond the See Level

Introduction The Christian faith can be very absurd to the world. There are many times Christians are told to do what's humanly speaking, foolish. The call is to live by faith and not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 has Paul expressing to live by faith and not by sight. No, this isn't called to blind faith or to just believe without examining. I remembered that Christians are laughed at for many reasons. The reality of God and His Gospel are hard to believe also because people also tend to live by sight I think about why do many religions in the world have graven images. I remembered how various religions such as Roman Catholicism, Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, the "Orthodox" churches, Taoism, and many more use graven images. I remembered reading in a Roman Catholic catechism and a Buddhist catechism with what they say about graven images. The Buddhist pamphlet said that it's not the image they worship but the one portrayed by it - a defense to why they don't

Say Yes to Proverbs 5 Sex Education, Say No to Worldly Sex Education

While doing some reading through Proverbs 5 yesterday and I found the late J. Vernon McGee's heading for this chapter to be rather interesting. It was called, "God's Sex Education". It is amazing how the whole chapter reveals what's wrong with the worldly sex education system. I remembered disliking the term sex education because of the negative connotations along with it. Sex is a wonderful thing in God's boundaries but a horrible thing when it steps outside God's boundaries. Sexual intercourse was designed for human beings. However, it only becomes evil when people decide to engage in sexual perversion. Why am I opposed to secular sex education? I remembered in the video "If Footmen Tire You, What Will Horses Do?" by Estus Pirke (unfortunately, said video had the late pervert Jack Hyles in it) discussed about the fall of the public education system. How often are children taught about the erotic zones of pleasure? One way or another - people
