Hebrews 6:4-6 Explained

Hebrews 6:4-6 says, "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame."

This verse is another that is being used by the works salvation crowd as a means to prove again that salvation can be lost. However, what does this mean? This again shows the fact that once a Christian, always a Christian and that means, you cannot lose your salvation.

So notice the words "IF they fall away" but as said, Christians DO NOT fall away from the faith even if they fall into sin because they are still sinners (1 John 1:8, 1 John 2:1) but they have power over sin because of the Lord Jesus Christ's grace in their lives (Titus 2:11-15).

As said, Christians are now partakers of the Holy Ghost and therefore, it's really impossible for them to really fall away from the faith. 1 John 2:19 says, "They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us." showing that those who had departed from the faith were NOT saved to start with.

That is, if they fall away cannot be talking to Christians because they do not. A true Christian remains a Christian no matter what. Their lifestyle is also manifest, as inconsistent as it can be, that there will always be changes.
