What is the Unpardonable Sin or Sin Against the Holy Spirit?

Matthew 12:22-32 and Mark 3:22-30 brings up the topic of the unpardonable sin which is the sin against the Holy Spirit.  Below are some common misconceptions of the sin against the Holy Spirit or the unpardonable sin:

  • Roman Catholicism in some way teaches that sinning against the Holy Spirit is to deny the power of the priest to forgive sin, to lose items they consider as "holy" like a Rosary and to deny the power of their assembly because these acts refuse the forgiveness of Jesus.
  • The charismatic movement says that people who go against them are blaspheming the Holy Ghost especially in refuting their heresy of faith plus works salvation, which is no faith at all.
  • Some say that it is an unpardonable sin for a person to wrongfully claim that the Holy Spirit made them do it.  That is a lie, yes.  Unforgivable?  No if the person happens to be still alive.

So what is it really?  The unpardonable sin is this- to die without Jesus Christ as one's Lord and Savior which happens when a person decides to put their trust in Him 100% for salvation.  Hebrews 9:27 is clear saying, "For as it is appointed unto man ONCE to die but after this the judgment."  That means, there is NO second chance in death.  There will be no Purgatory or reincarnation.  Jesus warned in John 14:6, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.  No man cometh unto the Father except through Me."  Jesus also warned in John 8:24 saying, "I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am He, ye shall die in your sins."  Sadly today many people trust something else like another Jesus (2 Corinthians 11:4) which in consequence results to trusting in good works (the common denominator of ecumenism, it's all about the lordship of works and self) and their manmade religion.  The issue is, they will not come and not they cannot come to Him, the Lord Jesus Christ (John 5:40).  What is even worse is that many who love sin teach works salvation!
