Be Thankful That You Have a Bible!
Psalm 119:27 declares, "The Law of Thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver."
The problem that worldly people think is that, "Well, nobody becomes a billionaire from reading the Bible." I would agree with them that yes, that's true. But there's a huge problem behind a lifestyle where money comes first. Ecclesiastes 5:10-11 warns that the more money you earn the more you want to earn more and more money. Now nothing's wrong with earning money because it's part of one's daily living but the problem is when one's goal in life is only to make money. But as much as possible, focus on Proverbs 30:7-9 that says to have neither poverty nor riches.
Every day, one can read in the newspapers that a lot of people who ended their lives also included rich people. Back then, I remembered I said that if I had all the money in the world then my problems will be over. But such thinking is shown that some rich people because of their love for money end up in wasteful existences. They end up neglecting everything else like their friends and family because of their love for money (1 Timothy 6:10). Worse, many of them end up rejecting Christ like the rich young ruler because they're too absorbed with money. When people think only of money these thorns kill the growing plant resulting to false converts.
While Christians can't deny they do need to earn money to support themselves, their families and the ministries involved but the Bible is one's principle. Christian businessmen have the Bible as their principle for how to operate the business. The Bible commands you to be honest and with utter integrity, don't use crooked balances, never cheat anyone just for a profit and to earn honest profits as Proverbs 16:8 says better is little with righteousness than great revenues without right. While aiming for great revenues is not a sin in itself but to discard righteousness for great revenues is a sin. Then sooner or later, one will lose credibility over a person who takes care to make sure every profit made is for the glory of God alone.
The Bible itself has had a bloody history. Many people fought for the right to hold a Bible. Many were slaughtered for simply sharing the Scriptures. The Bible contains all the writings of the prophets and apostles for today. Even back then, the prophets and apostles took extra care to compile whatever books of the Bible were available for that time. The apostles took extra care not to contradict one another. Having the Bible in one's hands is not enough as one must love it and count it more precious than fine gold. With that one may face all the trials and difficulties of life but there's always an infinite value after the high cost of following Jesus.
Soli Deo Gloria!
