A Case for Christian Ethics and Capitalism

What is capitalism? Capitalism is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as, "an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market." The big question can be is capitalism compatible with Christianity? I would say that doing business was already ordained by God in Exodus, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy. The Bible talks about fair business practices. I do believe that my private property isn't truly mine but God's. I also believe that it's thievery to get anything God didn't entrust to you or me.  Having a government that allows capitalism to flourish gets good economic growth. That means the government will have the money needed to operate the state properly. The more businesses there are then the more the supply and demand gap fills in because choices will b...

Christians and the Stock Market

Christianity itself isn't opposed to capitalism as long as it's not used for selfish motives. Capitalism is defined as a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners than the state. Out of the capitalist system also came the stock market aside from jobs and international marketing. Stocks are defined as partial ownership of shares from a corporation. I remembered going against the stock market thanks to the fraudulent site known as Jesus-is-Savior by David J. Stewart calls it a scam. Again, while Stewart is certainly right that capitalism works in a free market - he's definitely a nutjob conspiracy theorist you need to take with a grain of salt. Worse, did you know that the crazy Baptist preacher Steven Anderson also hates banks? It's no surprise that both Stewart and Anderson belong to the same side of the coin! Is the stock market really evil? I remembered attending some financial forums on small-time investments. Here are some basic tips that...

Learning The Christian Value of Contentment

The Spurgeon devotional had written this on contentment as part of the morning passage: I have learned, in whatever state I am, therewith to be content. -  Philippians 4:11  These words show us that contentment is not a natural propensity of man. "Ill weeds grow apace." Covetousness, discontent, and murmuring are as natural to man as thorns are to the soil. We need not sow thistles and brambles; they come up naturally enough, because they are indigenous to earth: and so, we need not teach men to complain; they complain fast enough without any education. But the precious things of the earth must be cultivated. If we would have wheat, we must plough and sow; if we want flowers, there must be the garden, and all the gardener's care. Now, contentment is one of the flowers of heaven, and if we would have it, it must be cultivated; it will not grow in us by nature; it is the new nature alone that can produce it, and even then we must be specially careful and watchful that w...

Having No Pity for the Poor Is a Sign of Being an Unsaved Person

Although not everyone who has pity for the poor is saved but one of the signs that a person is definitely not saved is having no pity for the poor. Here are a couple of verses from Proverbs that shows how having no mercy for the poor can be a good indicator that you are not saved: Proverbs 14:31  He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.  Proverbs 17:5  Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.  Proverbs 19:17  He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.  This reminds me of the story of the rich man and Lazarus where we read the following;  Luke 16:19-31  There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: [20] And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of so...

Rich Atheists May End Up Finding Themselves in Hell Someday

Image
It's time for a new post concerning atheism considering that it's April 1 isn't it? April 1 is rightfully National Atheist Day while today is also Easter Sunday for this year. Psalm 14:1 says that the fool says in his heart that there is no God. This is the problem today. People who are so foolish are so wise in their own eyes (Proverbs 12:15, 26:12). You have atheists who say Christians are fools because they are "too enlightened" in this day and age to believe that there is a God. Why some atheists even say they are better than Christians is because of existence of rich atheists. It's no surprise that I read of rich atheists and lower income Christians. This is the situation in Luke 16:19-31. This is what the Bible says about the situation: There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: [20] And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, [21] And desirin...

Eccesiastes 5:10-12 - He That Loves Silver Will Not Be Satisfied With Silver

Ecclesiastes 5:10-12- "He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes? The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep." Silver was the form of currency during the olden times. Remember everything was purchased in silver, including slaves. Joseph the dreamer was sold for 20 pieces of silver by his envious brethren and later, the Lord Jesus was sold for 30 pieces of silver by Judas Iscariot. The whole deal is this- people are in fact, think mostly of the temporal than the eternal. Reading through the succeeding verses until verse 17, one can see that money is but something that is left behind when one dies. However most people today behave like as if they can bring their money wi...
