The Incomplete Gospel of Easy Believism
As a Baptist Christian, I really had my thoughts on an incomplete gospel that is being preached in some assemblies. Why do I dare say that it is an INCOMPLETE gospel? Here are some of the most blatant heresies I find myself fighting against in easy believism. I used to consider myself an easy believist until I found out how many percent of Lordship salvation (a word frequently misinterpreted by works salvationists as a fancy word for their heretical doctrine) I believed in. In fact, here's the points that me and Pastor John Macarthur believed in: http://www.gty.org/Resources/Articles/A114.
No eternally secure Christian will EVER fall away because they cannot live like the rest of the world as well. God's grace, such grace that keeps me away from sinful living all my days.
You might actually want to stop consider yourself an easy believist if you find yourself agreeing to that what is discussed below is true to what can lead to false conversions:
I. No preaching about the Law and Jesus Christ is Lord.
- Their poor excuse is taking Acts 16 out of context. Now listen, I would never believe for even one second that the Apostle Paul did not preach about the Law and Jesus. In fact, he introduced the Lord Jesus Christ to the jailer. Of course, we don't hear everything word for word but what is certain is that in the epistles of Paul, he does not preach the Gospel incompletely.
- Reading the works of Spurgeon, Calvin, Pink, Towzer and Edwards, I really see the reality of the need to preach Jesus as Lord. John Macarthur's book "The Gospel According to Jesus" tackles a huge portion of the Lordship controversy.
- Listen, if you don't preach Jesus as Lord, people will never really embrace the need of Him as Savior too. Why? If they don't understand Christ as Lord, Christ as the offended Lord and the Christ as the Lord who will forgive graciously the sinner and sanctify then they don't see the need for forgiveness and salvation. Many times the Bible declares Jesus is Lord.
- The easy believism crowd excludes repentance from salvation. There is no such thing as a repentless salvation. In fact, the Bible commands repentance necessary for salvation. The word "repent" may not appear in the Book of John but repentance is still there like the word "Trinity" does not exist in the Bible yet the concept and truth of the Trinity is there.
- Unless people would even repent of their sins, I will not even see them truly coming to Christ for salvation. Remember the rich young ruler? He was not repentant. He went to Christ seeking to justify himself. Refusing to admit his guilt, he sadly walked away. The same happens to people who are not willing to turn from sin. Until people want to abandon their lives of sin, they will NEVER be truly converted. Think about it- when Matthew was called by Jesus, did he pack his profession? No. Matthew left his dishonest job as a publican and left all to follow Jesus as a result of salvation, same happened to Zaccheus. The Pharisees because they refused to repent of their sins believing themselves to be sinless when in fact they were not, rejected the Gospel.
- Here are references to Scripture as well to show the connection of repentance to salvation:
- Mark 1:15 says, "Repent and believe the Gospel".
- Mark 2:19 and Luke 5:32 says, "I came not to call the righteous but sinners to REPENTANCE."
- Mark 6:12- "And they went out and preached that men SHOULD REPENT."
- Luke 13:3-5 carries the message, "EXCEPT YE REPENT, ye shall all likewise perish."
- Luke 24:37 carries the message of REPENTANCE and remission of sins.
- Acts 11:18 talks about the repentance unto life.
- Acts 17:30 calls all men to repent.
- 2 Corinthians 7:10 has godly sorrow leading to REPENTANCE.
- 2 Peter 3:9 says that God wants all to come to REPENTANCE.
II. Preaching without the truth of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- Romans 10:9-10 and 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 declare the Gospel to include the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is not enough to really tell the person they are sinners and that Jesus is the Savior. They must know WHY Jesus is the Savior and what He did for them. The entire heart of the Gospel is dependent on what Jesus did for sinners. The Bible is clear saying in Romans 10:9-10 that if you confess the Lord Jesus Christ (acknowledging Him) and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. But as always, no repentance of sins means no confession of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Gospel is CENTERED on Christ's death, burial and resurrection otherwise He is dead in vain!
- If knowledge of the death, burial and resurrection were not necessary for salvation then why was Peter also preaching the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus in Acts 2 at his very first Sunday service as pastor of Jerusalem? Why were his deacons the other Apostles preaching the same message too? Stephen one of his deacons didn't deny these stuff- death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- If the lost sinner does not even know of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, such a person is trusting another Jesus, not the Lord Jesus Christ. The minimal facts of those three aspects are NEEDED.
