Eisegesis and Its Stupid Results
As said, it's very important to do exegetic pretty NOT eisegetic preaching. The method that Charles Spurgeon used was verse by verse preaching. Hearing Pastor John F. Macarthur's "Bad Hermeneutics" message, I had my thought on how stupid eisegesis is. Now for the record, here's the definitions we have to clarify:
- Exegesis- Exposition of the text based on CAREFUL analysis with grammar, CONTEXT and setting.
- Eisegesis- This is where the user takes things OUT OF CONTEXT where one is only concerned about making a point, even at the expense of the meaning of words and use of one's imagination.
If I did my analysis in a very exegetic way, I would really go and find if NOTHING contradicts my interpretation. I go verse by verse, cover to cover with the Bible. What makes preachers like John MacArthur credible is with the fact how they go verse by verse. Atty. Zigfred Diaz's liking of MacArthur's methodology of preaching is simple- it goes VERSE BY VERSE so more or less, much less mistakes are made. In the case of Charles Haddon Spurgeon it goes a much longer way than any of my favorite modern day preachers can with his 3,000 exegetic sermons which really is a verse by verse analysis. That is why I really love Charles Haddon Spurgeon's expository preaching! Unfortunately he is very hated by people so stuck in their pride. Spurgeon's step by step preaching is very much recorded by Phil Johnson of Grace to You ministries in the Spurgeon Archives.
With my exegetic analysis, I really would start with going from the passages and making sure that the Bible is only interpreted with the Bible. The Bible explains itself with the help of God the Holy Spirit NOT with the help of man's corrupted mind! The Bible is explained with the Bible and not by just take one verse and isolate everything. Nope, that was not how you study the Bible. The Bible is studied verse by verse that is why compared to some of my favorite preachers, I still am always a King James only preacher because there are NO missing verses whatsoever.
On the other hand, eisegesis is all a result of a wild imagination. In fact, what makes many cults so foolish is that they actually LOVE to twist and take things out of context. Here are some examples below of how stupid people can get when they DO NOT expositorily take the Bible verse by verse:
- The Roman Catholic system is built on eisegesis and forgeries. You might consider the following out of context preaching:
- Taking Matthew 16:16-18 OUT OF CONTEXT to justify their false claim that Peter was the first Pope and the Rock. They simply DO NOT analyze it in context. Looking at it, Jesus EVEN in the Good News Translation said, "Peter you are a rock and upon THIS ROCK (obviously NOT pointing to Peter) I will build my Church." Obviously the Rock is NOT Peter and 1 Corinthians 10:4 EVEN in the Roman Catholic translations DO NOT declare Peter the Rock but Jesus Christ!
- To justify praying to Mary, they quote Luke 1:28 to justify praying to Mary. What they ignore is THAT nowhere later in the Scriptures is their practice supported.
- They misuse John 2:1-11 to say that people must go to Mary in order to go to Jesus. What they ignore is that in the whole story of the Wedding Feast of Cana, note that Mary ONLY said, "Do whatever He tells you to do." which is plain simple that if taken in context, Mary obviously wanted people to go directly to Jesus.
- In order to justify priestly celibacy, 1 Corinthians 7:32-35 is MISUSED AND MISREAD failing to see that EVEN the Old Testament priests were allowed to MARRY. What is ignored is that 1 Timothy 3:1-4 REQUIRES the church leader (and don't even tell me that the priest is not even a church leader) to be a husband of one wife.
- In order to oppose Sola Scriptura, they use 2 Thessalonians 2:15 which actually and however opposes them. What part of "by our word or by our epistle" CANNOT they read even in th Good News Translation?
- Arminian heretics are very dangerous with their conditional security doctrine which is strongly rooted upon man's pride and arrogance. In fact, they can go towards crazy teachings which can be explored by the following below:
- They have actually dared to use Matthew 7:21-23 to justify somebody can lose their salvation which however they fail to read the words "I NEVER KNEW YOU!" Jesus didn't say "I once knew you." and notice again, it's NEVER knew you. These people were not saved and even no matter how many good works they brag but the fact they are doers of iniquity (which further proves they aren't saved) proves they were never saved at all! If Jesus said, "I never knew you." to people He saved, He would be a liar.
- Matthew 24:13 is also misquoted. What they fail to realize is that this endure to the end and you shall be saved is plain and simple as this. True believers ENDURE to the end. If they ahve read 1 John 2:19 which describes apostates, such people who don't endure to the end aren't saved to start with. True Christians will persevere no matter what, fake ones don't.
- To add works to salvation, they have misquoted Ephesians 2:10 which if the verse justified salvation of "faith plus works" which is a plain heresy, Ephesians 2:8-9 which says salvation is by faith alone and NOT OF WORKS would be a lie. Their arguments are contradictory. For one, saved by faith but by a living faith that results to works. Obviously they want to take the credit! Philippians 2:12 is also misrepresented ignoring the next verse that says it is God that works in you.
