Easy "Christianity" Hates Expository Preaching

Image
Although the article I found about  Andy Stanley as he's guilty of trashing expository preaching  was last  May 8, 2015 -  I found it to be an interesting read. Here's an answer that Stanley gave that can make any sound Christian (whether pastor or regular church member) dizzy just reading it: Guys that preach verse-by-verse through books of the Bible– that is just cheating. It’s cheating because that would be easy, first of all. That isn’t how you grow people. No one in the Scripture modeled that. There’s not one example of that. It's really amazing at how Stanley can give that really stupid statement that it's supposedly cheating. People who are against expository preaching should be asked why they even think that it's "cheating". Don't tell me any teacher who expands on subject matters in just any subject in education like history, math, and science are "cheating"? On the contrary, verse by verse preaching is not easy. Takin...

Why Do Unbelievers Love to Take Scriptures Out of Context?

Image
It's frustrating that no matter how many times anyone can show the Scripture to the unbeliever, no matter how good the exposition is done but they still refuse to believe it. So what's the reason behind such frustration? 1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. This is the reality that we have to realize. Unsaved people can't understand the Bible because they receive not the things of God. Here's how it gets so irritating - Scripture is clearer than day but the error persists. It doesn't matter how bright the sun is but if the person is blind then he can't see the truth. This is the case of spiritual blindness and spiritual denial - the truth is clear but the hardened heart cannot savingly believe for salvation because it refuses to.I could talk about a couple of verses that are too obvious in themselves yet peo...

Continue the Reformation Through Expository Preaching

Image
It's not merely enough to protest against Rome. There are many who protest against Rome who are just as heretical as Rome. What's not too surprising is to find some "Baptist" preachers who reject the badly needed art of expository preaching. Why do we need expository preaching? To know why we need it we must first define it. Defining expository preaching This is what the book "By the Book: The Whys and Hows of Biblical Preaching" would define expository preaching: Expository preaching . When the main theme, its main points and further development of the points of the points or sub-points are all derived from the content, context and structural flow of a longer text in Scripture. This is popular when expounding paragraphs, stanzas, and chapters of a book and especially when doing a series of preaching from a book. (p. 45) Here is the definition from Got Questions on "What is expository preaching?": Expository preaching involves the expos...

How Sunday Evening Services Can Help Continue the Reformation

There's a real debate about Sunday evening service. Some people have grown up in the Roman Catholic home where the service for Sunday morning has the same message for Sunday evening. The priest rants the same sermon like a tape recorder. Most people choose to attend either the Morning Mass, the Afternoon Mass or the Evening Mass. But such is the case when some people get saved is that they're shocked to find out that Sunday evening services are different from Sunday morning services. The tradition of Sunday evening services can be debated. Some churches don't think Sunday evening services are important nor do they offer it. Others may end up mimicking the Roman Catholic parish in the sense that they offer the same message all over again. Yet the Reformed preachers taught a different lesson for both Sunday morning an Sunday evening. As I read through the late Charles H. Spurgeon's sermons he preached on Wednesday evenings, Sunday mornings and Sunday evenings. The late ...

If That Preaching Doesn't Hurt Anyone With Biblical Truth Then That Preaching is Bogus

Image
It's very typical today to have seeker sensitive preaching. While I don't suggest people to be as cheesy and offensive as possible like some Christian ministries that tend to generalize certain religious people as criminals (ex. Roman Catholics, Muslims) instead of victims of false preaching but it's not good to be seeker sensitive either. The problem is that many times is that many foolish preachers today don't even preach the Bible as it is to people as they are in fear of not having enough people attending (and financing) their pulpits. The Bible is so offensive to many because the truth about sin and salvation is so real. The paradox is that getting saved could be the easiest thing but it could also be the hardest thing to do. What's so hard to believe about the Gospel? It's because a lot of the Gospel challenges our thinking. It's easier to believe you can be saved by your own good works than it is easy to believe that you can't save yourself. I...

Well, This Portrait Shows How Out of Context Preaching Can Be So Dangerous!

Image
Do you know that a pseudo-Christian organizations are faultily built on out of context preaching? Whenever I study these organizations whether it'd be the Roman Catholic institution, the Mormons, the Jehovah's Witnesses, the Iglesia ni Cristo or any of them claiming to be the true church or the true church restored after its apostasy (that's not Bible teaching, either), we can be certain that out of context preaching out of context is indeed dangerous. Many people are in Hell today all because of quack preachers who keep taking verses out of context. Many of them either have a false security in their good works or in their belief that Christians can still remain the same as before. Either way, both the works salvationist and the Antinomian aren't regenerate Christians but they're still degenerate sinners. The portrait above shows the example of how stupid out of context preaching is. The person in green is putting God to the test by misquoting Philippians 4:13....

Theological Warning: Easy-Gesis or Out of Context Preaching Is Super Dangerous!

Image
Got Questions defines eisegesis from the article " What is the difference between exegesis and eisegesis " as: The opposite approach to Scripture is eisegesis, which is the interpretation of a passage based on a subjective, non-analytical reading. The word eisegesis literally means "to lead into," which means the interpreter injects his own ideas into the text, making it mean whatever he wants . Why is eisegesis or out of context preaching really more used? Most people today are just too lazy. The preacher is really that lazy to study the Bible for himself. It's always easier to take Scriptures out of their context than understanding them in context. But just like easy believism, it really gives disastrous results. If easy believism shelters false converts then it also advocates eisegesis preaching. 2 Peter 3:16 warns of people who twist around the Word of God. That's what eisegesis does to the presentation of God's Word. It's also appropriate ...

Eisegesis and Its Stupid Results

As said, it's very important to do exegetic pretty NOT eisegetic preaching.  The method that Charles Spurgeon used was verse by verse preaching.  Hearing Pastor John F. Macarthur's "Bad Hermeneutics" message, I had my thought on how stupid eisegesis is.  Now for the record, here's the definitions we have to clarify: Exegesis- Exposition of the text based on CAREFUL analysis with grammar, CONTEXT and setting. Eisegesis- This is where the user takes things OUT OF CONTEXT where one is only concerned about making a point, even at the expense of the meaning of words and use of one's imagination. If I did my analysis in a very exegetic way, I would really go and find if NOTHING contradicts my interpretation.  I go verse by verse, cover to cover with the Bible.  What makes preachers like John MacArthur credible is with the fact how they go verse by verse.  Atty. Zigfred Diaz's liking of MacArthur's methodology of preaching is simple- it goes V...

Learning More About Expository Preaching

After further investigating the allegations against Pastor John F. MacArthur by some Independent Fundamental Baptists who go with the "easy message", I was thinking about verse by verse preaching especially when I had visited the Spurgeon Archive. So what would be expository preaching be defined as to today's reader? Expository preaching is defined as exposition or comprehensive explanation of the Scripture, that is, presenting the meaning or intent of the Biblical text. It seeks to expose the meaning of the Bible verse by verse. Charles Haddon Spurgeon was an expository preacher who explored the Bible with up to 3,000 sermons verse by verse before he joined the Heavenly Father in glory. Today we have Grace to You Ministries with Pastor John F. Macarthur who has done some verse by verse preaching in exploring the meaning of each one but sadly he can be taken out of context. I am yet to read John MacArthur's book "Expository Preaching" but I have observe...

Why Christian Pastors Should Preach BOLDLY, EXPOSITORILY and WITHOUT COMPROMISE

Image
Here's a message for all pastors in the Christian churches- it's time to stop watering down on the preaching job, stop chickening out of persecution and start preaching like the prophets, apostles and most especially like the the Lord Jesus Christ who lived a life without sin and taught the right way for His followers to live! That is pastors must preach boldly, expositorily and without compromise. There should be no watering down of the Book of the Law. Joshua 1:8 is already clear enough saying, "That this Book of the Law shall not depart out of thy mouth but thou shalt meditate upon it day and night that thou observest to do according to ALL that is written therein, for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and thou shalt have good success." Now it's time to apply that INTO THE PULPITS! It's time to be serious with Bible studies! What does it mean to preach expositorily? Expository preaching is defined as, "involving the exposition, or...
