Why Christians Should NOT Participate in Halloween

As Halloween draws near, now it's time to really have the REAL issue to why Christians should not participate in Halloween. As said, there is nothing man can do to make Halloween or HELLoween any holier than it is more satanic. It should always remain as is- it's not a hallowed eve, meaning dedicated to God, rather it's a Hellish evening.

I.) Halloween will always be associated with Samhain or paganism, in fact it's modernized paganism

The Bible is clear that God warned about in Jeremiah 10:2 never to learn the way of pagans. In Deuteronomy 18:10-11 warns of witchcraft being abominable. Galatians 5:20 is clear that witchcraft is still immoral under the ever enduring moral law that endures from the Old Testament to the New Testament. In the Book of Acts, Paul battled various sorcerers and when people converted to Christianity, sorcery became a business gone bankrupt!

Here are the interesting facts about Halloween:
  • Samhain the very origin of Halloween was a three days celebration from October 31-November 2. Not surprisingly, Catholicism considers these days sacred and October happens to be the Rosary month.
  • They believe that restless spirits have been roaming around. Actually these are demons. Rather than put on God's holy protection, people are made to wear scary costumes and cast spells. It's plain and simple to see they do not have the Lord Jesus Christ in their lives.
  • Pagan priests demanded sacrifices. If they didn't get what they want, death could come in that home.
  • It was also the nights when the Unholy Inquisition was at its most active. It was really in fact brave for Martin Luther and company like John Calvin to do soulwinning on Halloween!
  • Halloween was not originally an American holiday until the 19th century immigration.

Halloween is, in fact, is mostly tied with the following immoral practices and here are some:
  • Displaying of horrific and sometimes even gory images. Images of skulls, serpents, and demons are all glorifying Satan. Some of the malls even make dummies of mutilated bodies to celebrate Halloween. Clearly, that is not glorifying God.
  • It is the time of year when human sacrifices are far more common. Read the newspapers to find out there are more missing people in Halloween than any time of the year or even cannibal cults emerging like crazy. Satanists are the most active by then. In fact, it's tied to Baal worship that demands either treats for the pagan priests or give up one's child for human sacrifice. Only this time, it's more subtle and deadly.
  • Also, it's linked with drunkenness and orgies. Many get drunk on Halloween only to get double-crossed and eaten by cultists as well.
  • Many occult-based films do show a generous amount of nudity which can also be linked to the use of human sacrifices and cannibalism aside from orgies, rape, fornication, and adultery.

II.) Christians are not to mingle with the works of darkness

For a Christian to celebrate Halloween is comparable to Solomon's compromise with 1,000 pagan women and to Jehoshaphat's alliance with Ahab. The Bible is clear with the following on Christians:
  • Proverbs 1:10 says do not consent to sinners.
  • Amos 3:3 is clear that two cannot walk together except they are agreed.
  • Throughout Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Acts nowhere the Apostles ever condone the works of darkness. The Apostle Paul preached much against witchcraft even at the cost of his life.
  • 2 Corinthians 6:14 says Christians and unbelievers are not to be unequally yoked.
  • Ephesians 5:11 is clear that Christians are to never have anything to do with dark works but to rather reprove them.
  • 1 John 1:6 says that whenever Christians sin, they are in confusion.

III. What Christians can do instead of celebrating Halloween

However thank God for Martin Luther's efforts who said on October 31, 1517, "Unless I am convinced by Scripture and plain reason, my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and I will not recant anything, for to go against conscience would be neither right nor safe. God help me. Here I stand, I can do no other."

Here's some advice for Christians to counter Halloween with love for sinners:
  • Christians should not be afraid to go out soulwinning. For a Christian, Satan is defeated and sin has no dominion. They are eternally secure. It's a once saved always saved, once a believer always a believer, once a disciple always a disciple and once an endurer always an endurer. As said Christians have the confidence in Christ (John 6:37) and that they cannot depart from Christ (1 John 2:19). In fact, being created unto good works by God's grace (Ephesians 2:8-10, Titus 2:11-15) they will be able to resist any temptation during Halloween.
  • Although no Halloween decorations will be on the Christian's home, they, however, should prepare lots of candy to give and give out Gospel tracts, most preferably against Halloween. Yes harassment is an issue but so what? Jesus suffered harassment and will His followers (John 15:18-19). That's right- printing should be doubled every October to leave many more tracts for the rest of the year!
  • Another alternative is to actually go door to door soulwinning and presenting the Gospel as it should be- iron-sided, comforting and being washed clean of doctrinal pollution (ex. works salvation, easy believism which excludes repentance). Yes, that's the kind of Gospel preaching that should be done!
