Spurgeon's Quote on the Suffering of Christ

Do you reflect daily on the sufferings of the Son of God, our Lord Jesus Christ?  The more I think of His sufferings from reading the crucifixion in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John as well as reading Isaiah 51-53 - the more any true convert will never dare think He did all of that so they can sin all the more.

Instead, the true convert reflects on this reality that Jesus died for every last sin no matter how small or how big.  Every sin breaks the holy standard of God as Romans 3:19 declares the whole world guilty before God and James 2:10-11 declares even one sin causes a man to fall short.  The sufferings of Christ has always been about liberating people from their sins and not to sin.  It is because of that fact that Christians feel frustrated and wish they could no longer sin but alas, there is still the struggle against sin at a daily basis.

When it came to the suffering of Christ, it was His sacrificial love that got Him to receive the wrath of God in our place.  As 2 Corinthians 5:21 declares that He who knew no sin became the substitute for people who could not pay for their sins except in death and eternal separation from God.  Such a wonderful action would really make every true convert say, "Lord you saved me, how may I serve you now?"
