The Focus of the Ongoing Reformation is the Word of God, Not the Reformers nor Denominations

Image
Yesterday was Reformation Day. Today is November 1 or All Saint's Day for Roman Catholics. There are many issues with the Reformation. I was told before that I didn't know how to pray because my "god" is Martin Luther. The name Protestant was simply dubbed on those who protested against the Roman Catholic institution. Some Protestants have the right to say that they're  not Protestant but just Christian. There are Baptists who don't consider themselves Protestants even if they do embrace non-Baptist Christians or reject the Baptist Bride doctrine. What was the real big issue of the Reformation? Was it about Luther or John Calvin? Was it about John Knox, Uldrich Zwingli, or any other person dubbed as a Protestant reformer? No, the big issue of the Reformation is all about focusing on the Word of God - that's what Sola Scriptura actually means.  What therefore is Sola Scriptura? Sola Scriptura is defined as follows by Ligonier Ministries' article " ...

Gleaning Important Lessons from Peter's First Sermon in Acts

Image
Today is Pentecost Sunday which is on the seventh Sunday after Easter Sunday. Acts 2 opens up with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has always been co-eternal and co-equal with the Father. Deists would want to say that the Holy Spirit is just a force. Genesis 1:26 where God said, "Let us create man..." - the Father couldn't be talking to the angels. Rather, the Father was talking to the Son and the Holy Spirit. Who else could create but God? Doesn't God exist as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit? The Spirit of God is mentioned in the Old Testament. John 14 has Jesus promising the Holy Spirit as the Comforter. Jesus was soon going to physically leave the Earth and He ascended in Acts 1.  Peter could no longer be the same. John 21 reveals Peter's restoration. Peter was allowed to taste failure so he can appreciate his restoration. Jesus had restored Peter back into the pastorate. Peter would later begin his first pastoral work in Acts 2...

For the Christian, Every Day is Reformation Day

Image
It's true that October 31 like December 25 only comes once a year. With Christmas coming near, I remembered the song by Kenny Rogers that's titled "Christmas Every Day". Nope, it's not a call to celebrate it daily, Christmas feasts are something to look forward to but to keep the Christmas spirit in your heart. Okay, I know there are some objections, "But Christmas is pagan!" but the arguments tend to argue like Hislop. Now, back to the Reformation. It's true that the Reformation Day comes once a year like the ungodly Halloween. So, what does it mean to keep the spirit of reformation (and not just the Reformation) in one's hearts? Romans 12:1-2  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and ac...

Does Acts 8:30-31 Dismiss Sola Scriptura?

It's a pity really how often opponents of Sola Scriptura use Scripture to refute it. Now, I even read from an amateur and self-proclaimed  Catholic "apologist" (as well as other professional Catholic apologists) that Acts 8:30-31 "refutes" Sola Scriptura. Now let's take a look what it says and I will use the Good News Translation even if I only use the King James for my English translation. Acts 8:30-31  Philip ran over and heard him reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah. He asked him, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 The official replied, “How can I understand unless someone explains it to me?” And he invited Philip to climb up and sit in the carriage with him. Congratulations on missing the point of the passage of Scripture! This passage would note refute Sola Scriptura but Solo Scriptura. The difference is that Solo Scriptura only has the Bible as the only authority but not as the source of authority. Sola Scriptura is the guiding ...

Correcting the Severely Misunderstood View of Sola Scriptura

It's really something when various groups such as the Roman Catholic institution don't really know what Sola Scriptura or Bible alone means. First, we need to think about the difference between Sola Scriptura and Solo Scriptura. So what do the two mean? Here's a big distinction that we should be careful before we mistake them to be just one for the other: Sola Scriptura: the Bible is the only "rulebook" that sets out Christian doctrine. Although we don’t need anything else to know God and be saved by him,  God didn't deliver it in a hermetically-sealed chamber; rather, he put it in the middle of a vast library full of other sources that help us understand it better .  Solo Scriptura: the Bible is the only "rulebook" that sets out Christian doctrine, and any attempt to nuance or finesse our understanding of it using other sources of knowledge is probably from the devil.  We don’t need that malarky, we don’t want that malarky, and in fact, you sho...

Answering Self-Appointed Lady Catechist's Ridiculous Claim That Bible Alone and Faith Alone Leads to Evil

Image
I just read across the ridiculous posts by a certain amateur or self-proclaimed Catholic faith defender  lady (I'll probably call her Self-Appointed Lady Catechist to avoid getting personal or shaming her in public) where they say that the doctrine Bible alone and faith alone leads to evil. It made me think that the person is obviously using the wrong samples and that she's woefully ignorant. Let us just take a look at this poor sampling she did. She should be grateful that I am not shaming her openly. Rather, I am criticizing her mistakes for the sake of her eternal soul. She's using the picture of a depraved "Baptist" church that has a female minister (as if the Roman Catholic institution doesn't have nuns) performing a lesbian marriage. I don't deny that there are fake Baptist churches and there are fake pastors here and there. But here's what I should address first and foremost - that Baptist church is evil not because it's Bible alone but...

Who Will You Believe: Pope Francis or the Bible?

Image
Here's a cartoon of how tragic the afterlife for Roman Catholics would be when they realize that they needed a real, personal relationship with Christ to enter into Heaven. As I grew up as a Roman Catholic I didn't really care about the Bible. I even hear some Roman Catholics are told to never read the Bible for themselves because not everyone should be allowed to read it. The priest often says that reading the Bible alone will confuse you so you need their extrabiblical doctrine. Worse, they are confusing Sola Scriptura with Solo Scriptura. Born again Christians have their tradition but it's dictated by the Bible as a guiding principle to one's lifestyle. It's not that they read only the Bible but rather they have the Bible as their only principle for Christian tradition. What is this personal relationship? As much as some pastors feel like the term personal Lord and Savior can be dangerous or "personal Savior" may suggest that Jesus is a genie than L...

The Error of Comparing Protestantism to New Atheism

The amazing blindness of Catholic.com is too amazing isn't it? I just read an article written yesterday which compares Protestantism to New Atheism . As much as the article is written as professionally as possible in contrast to some self-proclaimed apologists I've had a lot of useless arguments with but I'd like to give a friendly rebuke to the writer Karlo Broussard. It's my sincere prayer that Broussard will see the truth from the pages of the Scripture.  The writer commits the fallacy of categorical error. He compares Sola Scriptura with Richard Dawkins' views on science. Here's one of the statements that really should be considered a categorical error: Just as science is the only tool Dawkins and company are willing to use to arrive at knowledge of the natural truth, Protestants use only the Bible for determining what is revealed truth. And as many modern atheists reject anything that science cannot detect, so too do Protestants reject any teaching th...

You Can Never Love Jesus and Hate Studying the Bible at the Same Time

Image
It's stupid how how some people who say, "I love Jesus." but when I ask them about Bible studies they're so indifferent. That kind of attitude is a problem today in the modern "church". We have people who have an Easy "Christianity". They adhere to the heresy that you can get saved without resulting to any necessary changes. There's nothing in Scriptures to suggest that one could get saved and never be delivered from a life of sin. Worse, such people think they can get saved and have no interest in reading the Bible. Worse, when I tell them that they could be false converts they start accusing me of teaching works salvation. I remembered somebody tried to argue from Romans 7:15 to justify carnal Christianity. I admit that person is always taking verses out of context. It's amazing how he claims to be a Christian but hates personal holiness one way or another. He also hates expository preaching and accused preachers like Charles H. Spurg...

Refuting the Ridiculous Claim That Sola Scriptura Condones to Certain Evils in Society

Official Roman Catholic doctrine doesn't teach that Sola Scriptura supposedly condones to certain evils. What should be very amazingly blasphemous is that a self-proclaimed Roman Catholic apologist (who will be referred to as "Alaska Boy" as not to get openly personal with that guy) has gone as far as to say that Sola Scriptura condones to certain evils. When asked what evils these are he mentions are death penalty and slavery. The problem with that this guy who I call "Alaska Boy" is that he's got a poor understanding of these two areas. Let's take a look at what the Bible says about death penalty and slavery. Let's take a Scriptural view at both areas to refute Alaska Boy's claims. I waited for a long time to write this entry. Hopefully this will convict him of his heresies before it's too late. The death penalty is supported by Scriptures Whether he likes it or not the Bible actually calls for death penalty. It was God who spoke t...

Handling the Roman Catholic Accusation That Born Again Christians Also Include the Prosperity Gospel Crowd

Image
Some Roman Catholic apologists (the amateur or self-proclaimed ones) refuse to get saved because not only do they believe that being truly born again is through Roman Catholic infant baptism or adult baptism (which neither involve immersion by default) but also they mistakenly assume that prosperity gospel preachers are born again Christian pastors. They go ahead and cite a lot of incidents involving crooked pastors (who born again Christians oppose as workers of Satan) which also includes the prosperity gospel crowd. Why aren't prosperity gospel crowd members born again Christians? Do the Roman Catholics who object to born again Christianity know what it means to be born again? Being born again is not about doing the best you can to maintain God's grace or to get baptized. Instead, it's all about forming a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. The prosperity gospel crowd doesn't teach the Gospel as it is. They don't accept Sola Scriptura. No, Sola Scriptura ...
