Theological Warning: Easy-Gesis or Out of Context Preaching Is Super Dangerous!
The opposite approach to Scripture is eisegesis, which is the interpretation of a passage based on a subjective, non-analytical reading. The word eisegesis literally means "to lead into," which means the interpreter injects his own ideas into the text, making it mean whatever he wants.
Why is eisegesis or out of context preaching really more used? Most people today are just too lazy. The preacher is really that lazy to study the Bible for himself. It's always easier to take Scriptures out of their context than understanding them in context. But just like easy believism, it really gives disastrous results. If easy believism shelters false converts then it also advocates eisegesis preaching. 2 Peter 3:16 warns of people who twist around the Word of God. That's what eisegesis does to the presentation of God's Word. It's also appropriate to spell it as easygesis because it takes the easy route to error and destruction.
If you took the time to listen to it properly you can see how ridiculous interpretations can get if you don't use expository methods. What I've noticed is how often the Scripture is taken out of context. So they think that John 11 is the best passage for the Rapture? Even for a topical sermon, John 11 doesn't even match with the intended topic namely the Rapture of the Church. I have nothing against topical sermons but it's important to stick to expository preaching as part of learning the Scriptures. It's one of the most scholarly methods that you can use to grow in wisdom in God's Word. One can learn basic exegesis with a good commentary like the MacArthur Bible Commentary though in the digital age, one can also get a soft copy of other useful commentaries like the Geneva Study Bible, John Gill's Exposition, Matthew Henry's Commentary or the Commentary Whole and Critical to name a few more useful study tools one can invest in one's journey in a scholarly approach to learn God's Word.
2 Timothy 2:15 commands Christians to study their Bible diligently so they can rightfully divide the Word of God. But most people today are just too lazy to read explaining why so many people give such stupid answers. If you don't read you can't understand. If you don't study then you can't dig deeper. Reading isn't enough because you must study it! Proverbs 29:20 calls such people who are hasty with their words to be fools. Most people today are governed by their emotions and shallow thinking rather than seeking biblical wisdom. Proverbs 26:12 that foolish people think they're wise. Romans 1:22 warns of people who declare themselves to be wise to be fools. People shun wisdom today because they're fools who are wise in their own eyes. But Christians are called to be wise even if the world will consider them foolish.
