My Changed View on Pastor Paul David Washer - Is He Teaching a Washed Up Gospel or Not?

Another preacher which I have wrongfully attacked within the Body of Christ for some time is Pastor Paul David Washer another Baptist preacher since I spent too much time reading on a website that was taken down perhaps due to the owner's irresponsibility or the allegations made against him were really real thus proving he might be a fraud as many claimed him to be (plus that website was too focused on conspiracy theories anyway). So at first, he does "sound legalistic" but it was only because things were taken out of context.

For one, he is also one of my good friend Pastor/Attorney Zigfred M. Diaz's favorite preachers aside from Pastor John F. Macarthur and Pastor Ray Comfort. In truth, we are really starting to suffer from so much Gospel ignorance resulting to false conversions. It's hard to find a preacher like him who shows much emotion for the lost and stress a point against watered down preaching. Now here's really what I thought about him after I have started to listen to some of his sermons that he is NOT teaching a washed-up gospel as some may accuse him like the easy believist crowd:

1.) Every time he emphasizes repentance and turn from sin, he is really stressing this, without any broken hearts before God, are they really going to God or just pretending to go there?

In fact, it's important to get repentance right or we are going towards false conversions. In fact, my problem with the Roman Road preaching without any explanation is this, a person may repeat after you and yet they are not repentant. I mean if in the Roman Road you're in Romans 3:10-19, you need to show the person the foulness of their sin. In fact, that's why I've begun using Ray Comfort's method of using the Law to present the Gospel, because people must see how wretched they are before they can even realize they need salvation. Nobody gets saved by a few mere repetition of words, the first time I said the sinner's prayer I was still trusting in myself until I realized just how WRETCHED I was. I ended up in sorrow asking God for salvation. In fact, so many times do we hear they just said a simple prayer but no change in their lives. Why? Because they were not really converted. In fact, without a repentance of sin, I don't see any reason why a man would turn to Christ.

2.) There can't be really Christians who remain in the state of carnality without any conviction.

While he preaches that Christians may struggle with sin (but still remain saved), however he does not preach that one can be saved and not bearing fruit. In fact, that's a truth I really accept. He is NOT putting the cart before the horse. In fact, he is stressing like I love to stress that Christians CANNOT remain carnal in an indefinite period of time and not bear fruit. Matthew 7:17-18 is clear that by their fruits they will be known. Mangoes don't make a tree an mango tree- on the other hand mangoes reveal the true nature of the tree. The fact that sinners are bad trees, they seriously need spiritual regeneration in Christ alone to become good trees. In fact, Ephesians 2:10 is clear that Christ has set good works for all saved by grace, Titus 2:11-14 says that God's grace teaches righteous living and Hebrews 12:5-6 that God disciplines the disobedient Christian. The examples might be Lot, Samson, David, Solomon, Jehoshaphat, Elijah and Hezekiah who were chastised of God. To think about it for a time Jeremiah stopped preaching but God's chastisement brought him back, Peter denied Christ but he returned to Christ. This sets EVERY Christian apart from Judas Iscariot. Matthew 15:1-8 differentiates true converts from false ones through the two types of branches. God trims the branches of believers while casts the worthless branches away. I don't dare believe in fruitless Christians. Even the thief on the cross had works when he rebuked the crowd and his companion, showing he was turning from sin to the Savior.

3.) True Christians persevere to the end.

He stresses the true converts from the false one. Either you are saved or you are not saved. Eternal security is not merely once saved, always saved... rather it will manifest the difference. You cannot have eternal security and not have daily sanctification or daily renewal in Christ. Truly saved people cannot fall away only by God's grace. This is one of the reasons why he is so falsely accused by the Arminian crowd for teaching a license to sin. But does he sound like one? Not at all ever since I thought about his sermons against sin, he also had sermons against false conversions. In fact Matthew 7:23 is clear that the Lord NEVER knew such people who were never saved, they never lost it- they never had it in the first place. In fact, a true Christian chooses to give up his life for the sake of the Gospel not because he is afraid to lose salvation but only because of God's grace. False converts shy away, true converts would rather die. He does not teach you can lose your salvation and that if the person claimed to be a Christian but does not display any marks of Christianity, that person never lost it because that person never had it.

In fact, I just started checking out his site Heartcry Missionary and how he really presents a thorough picture of the Gospel. Yes he is flawed like every favorite preacher of mine and he still needs prayers from fellow Christians. I hope this article will also be a blessing to all. We need more preachers like him who preach fiercely but refuse to accept debates.
