Jesus Christ as the Son of David, Son of Mary, Lord of All

As I was reading the Psalms today - I was stuck with Psalm 110. I was thinking of the first line of the said Psalm that says:
The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

There are two distinct spellings namely LORD and Lord. LORD in Hebrew means Yahowah, Yahweh, or Jehovah. Lord in Hebrew is spelled out as Adonai. This was a Psalm of David that would describe the Messiah. The fulfillment of the New Testament can be found in Mark 12:37 and Luke 20:44 which people get confused. Jesus affirmed His unique relationship that He was both David's Lord and son (descendant).

How can Jesus be in the human incarnation be the Son of David? It was both legally (through Joseph) and biologically (through Mary). David had one son named Solomon and another named Nathan. Why David named his next son with Bathsheba as Nathan was probably in honor of the prophet who convicted him to repent. Joseph had the legal claim but the line of Jehoiachin was cursed. However, Mary's family line too can be traced to David which gave the biological claim. Joseph was the adoptive father and Mary was the biological mother in the flesh.

The unique relationship is that David calls him Lord and yet that Lord is His Son. The same can be true for Mary. How unique can my relationship with David and Mary be? David may be Jesus' ancestor in the human incarnation yet he is my brother in Christ. Mary may be Jesus' biological mother in the flesh but she is my sister in Christ. The uniqueness of this position comes from the fact that Jesus is 100% God and 100% man. Jesus is not like the demigods or incarnations of Vishnu in Hinduism.

What's the proof that Jesus is God the Son hence the second person in the eternal God? John 1:1-10 affirm Jesus' divinity. John 8:44 has Jesus saying that He came before Abraham - something that got Him into trouble for affirming that hard-to-believe truth! Genesis 1:26 and 11:7 confirm the blessed Trinity's existence before time. I remembered the time I was studying the Bible. I already knew God was three in one - Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. I knew angels couldn't create. God said, "Let us create man in our image." God the Father couldn't be talking to angels. The idea of the Father talking to angels is absurd. We can have any pagan king of the gods talking to angels in the creation of man but not God the Father. I find it disgusting why some polytheistic religions refer to the king of the gods as God the Father - it's an insult to the one true God the Father! Angels can't create. Rather, the Holy Trinity was self-existent. Jesus already appeared in the Old Testament as the Angel of the LORD, the Captain of the LORD's army, to Abraham in Mamre, and some suggest that Melchizedek was a theophany though that's somewhat disputed.

The idea that without Mary there is no Jesus is contradictory to biblical truth. Just remember that Jesus created His mother. He came before His mother and His ancestor David. He came before Abraham. Just reading those verses gave me more affirmation that Mary couldn't still be above Jesus. Rather, Jesus is above Mary. Mary herself pointed out in John 2:5 to do whatever Jesus tells us to do. In that wedding of Cana - Jesus politely rebuked Mary and respectfully called her woman. The Good News Translation of the Bible (a Roman Catholic translation) even makes it clearer that Mary was now a follower. David called his Son (actually, distant descendant) as Lord before the incarnation. Mary certainly saw her Son as Lord. Mary took the rebuke from her Son, Jesus, rather well and pointed others to Him. Clearly, Mary didn't intercede (yet some Romish liars suggests she still does in spite of the clear light of Scripture) but rather pointed people to the one who interceded. Jesus invited people to Himself. Mary clearly wanted people to understand that she couldn't intercede between us and her Son. Have they forgotten that Jesus is God and Mary is but a human in need of a Savior? Unfortunately, Marian fanatics are too blind to understand Scripture. It takes God's supernatural work to awaken them!

The unique paradox is really there. Jesus was also going to complete every set prophecy about the Messiah as the Father had set. Jacob already predicted it in Genesis 49:8-12 that the Messiah will come from Judah. David was going to come from the tribe. I once wondered why the Messiah came from Judah. The very thought that Judah's successor Phares came from illicit incest with his Canaanite daughter-in-law Tamar in Genesis 38 is something. Yet, Jacob predicted it. The birthright was lost thrice. Reuben lost it due to him having sexual intercourse with one of his father's concubines. Simeon and Levi lost it with a dreadful act of murder. Why Judah didn't lose it is something even after he did two horrible stuff - he suggested Joseph be sold and he would later commit incest with his daughter-in-law. I can't fully understand God's purpose in letting the Messiah come from Judah. One can see that later somebody else Judah by name (Judas Iscariot, note that Judas is Judah or Jude in Greek) would sell Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Joseph was sold for 20 pieces of silver. It's like Judah's line was cursed for that reason yet God let it happen for a reason. Some even suggest that Judas Iscariot may be from the tribe of Judah based on his surname. Judas Iscariot was the only disciple whose surname was revealed. We never know what Judas (Jude) not Iscariot's surname really was. The curse was there but it was necessary for redemption.

This Christmas - we think away from the foul paganism and superstitions of the holiday. We kick away the Saturnalian elements in it. We would focus more deeply on the incarnation of Christ. I still find it impossible to celebrate Christmas without thinking about Good Friday. Jesus' birth was so He can live that perfect life and die for our sins. Back then, I never understood it until I saw myself as a dirty sinner. One time, I wish Jesus never died on the cross when I was nearly turning into an atheist and thought of converting to Islam. Then I saw it was necessary because without Christ's death - there's no redemption. Right now, I'd like to think that election and not my choice caused me to see Christ is all I need to be redeemed from sin and nothing more, nothing less.
