Calvinism has indeed started out as a pet issue but it has turned into a huge quarrel. Whether Baptists like to admit it or not - here are some important facts that they may have missed: The King James Version (KJV) in its history was translated by mostly Calvinist scholars namely the Puritans.  Before the KJV - other Protestant translations also included the Geneva Bible which was also used in the process of compiling the KJV.  Many of the songwriters of the hymns such as "Amazing Grace" were Calvinists. Many of the great commentators of the Scriptures were also Calvinists such as Matthew Henry, John Gill, and the writers of the "Commentary Critical and Explanatory of the Whole Bible" namely  Robert Jamieson, Andrew Robert Fausset, and David Brown. Is the Coronavirus outbreak within the sovereignty of God? Right now, it's no joke that the Coronavirus outbreak is now pandemic or a disease that spreads across a large region. I was wondering, "Why does God allow so much suffering?" When something happens to be agreeable then it's easy to say "God is good!" However, the problem arises when something bad happens and it's difficult to believe that it's God's will. I remembered getting into an argument with a former enemy of mine who kept telling me that it's God's will. February 29 comes once almost every four years, right? I decided to open the Spurgeon Devotional on my mobile phone (which automatically moves with the time set) for today. Introduction The Christian faith can be very absurd to the world. There are many times Christians are told to do what's humanly speaking, foolish. The call is to live by faith and not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 has Paul expressing to live by faith and not by sight. No, this isn't called to blind faith or to just believe without examining. The reality of God and His Gospel are hard to believe also because people also tend to live by sight I think about why do many religions in the world have graven images. There has been so many misconceptions about Calvinism that even some beloved brothers and sisters in the Lord Jesus have them. While I don't care too much if a person is Calvinist or non-Calvinist (and a non-Calvinist isn't automatically an Arminian) - there has been a serious and gross misrepresentation of Calvinism that needs to be addressed. This is the mistake that Calvinism or the doctrine of election is about saving people against their will when it isn't. So what drives people unto the Lord Jesus? The great preacher Charles H. Spurgeon once said that no doctrine is more offensive to man than the truth that God is sovereign. It's really annoying to anybody's sinful self when they're reminded of how God is sovereign and man isn't. Man is inclined to wanting their own way not God's way. It's very common for man to wish that they could just have it their way and not God's way. But the problem is that man wishes they had their way. God says no but man doesn't want to have no for an answer. That kind of attitude had caused man to lose Paradise all because Adam and Eve didn't follow God's will. When I come across to what we may call as Calvinism, Charles H. Spurgeon says, "The old truth that Calvin preached, that Augustine preached, that Paul preached, is the truth that I must preach today, or else be false to my conscience and my God. I cannot shape the truth; I know of no such thing as paring off the rough edges of a doctrine. John Knox's gospel is my gospel. That which thundered through Scotland must thunder through England again." The whole issue is when people put John Calvin above the Word of God. Some preachers I know do not agree with TULIP while having a slightly different view of Total Depravity and the Perseverance of the Saints saying that true conversion has nothing to with Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement and Irresistible Grace, they do agree with Calvin at certain points but say, "We can agree with some things Calvin says but the Bible stands above Calvin." I have heard the accusation from the Arminian camp (though take note that not all non-Calvinists are Arminians) saying that Calvinism or Reformed Theology teaches a license to sin.  Some of them to be the conservative camp of Protestants because they believe you teach Calvinism or Reformed Theology, people will become lax and say, "Well I'm unconditionally called, I don't need to do anything to keep my salvation."  The Arminian stand on salvation is simply a slimmer or diet version of the Roman Catholic view of conditional security.  Both Arminians and Roman Catholics are just as equally misguided as the other. Although I don't believe everything on John Calvin's commentaries such as Mary remaining a virgin or that the Antichrist is a dynasty (another erroneous view), but I simply agree with most of Calvinistic doctrine just as other past Baptist preachers like Charles H. Spurgeon and John Gill were also Calvinists and remember, most of the King James translators were Calvinists. God bless!

John Calvin is viewed to be the most influential Reformer aside from Martin Luther, Huldrytch Zwingli, Charles Wesley, John Wesley and John Knox.  John Knox would be the founder of the Presbyterian movement and the Wesley brothers, the Methodist movement.  However the hallmark of Reformed Theology is with Calvinism.  Although I don't entirely agree with John Calvin's other doctrines (ex. he believed that Mary stayed a virgin while he didn't elevate her like other women) but he had become responsible for the writing of several books and manuals that would be used so much in the history of Christianity.  What amazed me also was that John Calvin used to go to school together with the founder of the dreaded Jesuit Order, Ignatius of Loyola. I believe that there is the heresy which I call as "Hyper-Lordship Salvation" which may get a person to be an overly nitpicking person. Now I just thought one of the reasons why Lordship salvation gets so much misunderstanding is because of the "Hyper-Lorship salvation" heresy which can teach the following heresies as I've observed and at times, I have even adhered to these heresies without examining myself: When a person refuses to forgive, it automatically means you were not forgiven to start with If a person denies he or she is a Christian, they are not saved to start with If a person does a horrendous sin as of the moment, they are not saved to start with If they are having moments of disobedience, they are not saved to start with The problem with hyper-Lordship salvation is that it demands sinless perfection. Hyper-Calvinism is a heresy in itself.  Here's how Philip Johnson of Grace to You describes Hyper-Calvinism: Hyper-Calvinism, simply stated, is a doctrine that emphasizes divine sovereignty to the exclusion of human responsibility. To call it "hyper-Calvinism" is something of a misnomer. It is actually a rejection of historic Calvinism. Hyper-Calvinism entails a denial of what is taught in both Scripture and the major Calvinistic creeds, substituting instead an imbalanced and unbiblical notion of divine sovereignty. Calvinist or not, the fact is it's important to preach the Gospel right. What I am pretty much against is Hyper-Calvinism which is utter heresy and destroys missions. I would want to believe some people were actually chosen for salvation. Some of the best preachers in the past were Calvinists like Charles H. Spurgeon. Other Calvinist expositors in the present are Pastor John F. MacArthur and Pastor Paul David Washer to name a few. So why do I still embrace non-Calvinist Christians? Simple- as long as they are truly converted, they are already my brothers and sisters in Christ. When they show they are truly saved like blossoming in good works while still keeping in mind they are only saved by grace through faith, they are my brethren. Pastor John F. Looking at the five points of Calvinism, there is the Hyper View and the Moderate View. Now here's a clearer understanding of the Calvinist point of view of Reformed Theology which Spurgeon upheld: 1.) Total depravity It means that it is not just badness but blindness to God's beauty and deadness to the deepest joy. Romans 3:10-19 clearly speak of the total depravity of man. 2.) Unconditional election It means that the completeness of our joy in Jesus was planned for us before we ever existed in the overflow of God's joy in the fellowship of the Trinity. It's time to see TULIP according to the Biblical view and not how crooked theologians would view it.  This is an attack against hyper-Calvinism which is a crooked view to the five points John Calvin made in his preaching.  These points are: Total inability Unconditional election Limited atonement Irresistible grace Perseverance of the saints So we would take this view at a more Baptist angle than the typical "Protestant" outlook.
