Please Pray to God to Give Wisdom to Your Authorities in the Midst of Any Crisis

The Coronavirus epidemic is no joke just like any crisis before or whatever will come after it. There are people today who would rather defy authority than submit to authority when need be. Easter Sunday may be coming tomorrow but the Coronavirus struggle is far from over. It's showing how sinful man has become and the consequences are piling up. There are some countries that are showing incompetence while others are showing competence in handling the crisis. Unfortunately, China is still persecuting Chinese Christians in the midst of the Coronavirus epidemic. However, Chinese Christians aren't planning to overthrow their current ruler Xi Jinping who is a tyrant.  How would the Apostle Paul answer it? I hear Romans was written during the time of Emperor Nero. If it was written in 57 A.D. then Nero ruled then Paul was writing it during the reign of a tyrant . Who couldn't forget that Nero was a sexually depraved and incompetent ruler who nearly destroyed Rome? The Senate ...

Charles H. Spurgeon's Leap Year Morning and Evening Devotional

February 29 comes once almost every four years, right? I decided to open the Spurgeon Devotional on my mobile phone (which automatically moves with the time set) for today. What I didn't really put into my mind and heart is that he also wrote a leap-year devotional.  The devotions written by Spurgeon are as follows: Morning Devotion "With lovingkindness have I drawn thee."  Jeremiah 31:3  The thunders of the law and the terrors of judgment are all used to bring us to Christ; but the final victory is effected by lovingkindness. The prodigal set out to his father's house from a sense of need; but his father saw him a great way off, and ran to meet him; so that the last steps he took towards his father's house were with the kiss still warm upon his cheek, and the welcome still musical in his ears.  "Law and terrors do but harden All the while they work alone; But a sense of blood-bought pardon Will dissolve a heart of stone."  The Master ...

The Imperfect Judges God Chose vs. the Perfect Judge God Chose

The Book of Judges is one topic that I seldom hate to tackle. It's because the final verse reminds me of why this world drives me crazy. Every man tends to do what's right in their own eyes rather than do what's right in God's eyes. How often is the world in rebellion against God today? Very much. You can check the media right now. You can find the government and their anti-God policies. You can find politically correct people spew out blatant lies that defy common sense. The Book of Judges also tackles the issue of a sin cycle. Israel sins, God delivers them to wicked men, they repent. God sends a deliverer, the deliverer dies, and it starts all over again! You can imagine the situation of how the era of the judges begins. Joshua had died and many have deviated from his path. The problem comes with a new generation of Israelites that were unsaved (Judges 2:10). The same problems happen all over and over again. I'm amazed at how often fathers who have an outstandi...

Moses and Joshua, the Law and Jesus Christ

Image
Studying the Old Testament is vital for Christian growth. While Old Testament laws such as not eating pork are gone but the moral law still remains the same. The Old Testament is what may be called the ever-evolving Bible. Before we have the Bible with all 66 books today - they had the Pentateuch as the first Bible before the prophetic books were compiled centuries later. The journey from Genesis to Deuteronomy became the first compiled Bible. The death of Moses soon gave them another leader in Joshua. I personally think Vernon McGee's commentary is easier to understand and more entertaining than Matthew Henry's. McGee had written this in relation to Joshua 1:2: As we have seen, Moses was not essential to lead the children of Israel into the land. In fact, he could not bring he could not bring them into the Land of Promise. Moses represented the Law and the Law cannot save us. The Law is a revealer and not a redeemer. It shows us that we are sinners. The Law was never a s...

Three Erroneous Ways Unsaved Sinners Disrespect God's Law

Image
God's Law is really offensive, isn't it? The Law itself its offensive for this reason. Martin Luther called it a hammer that smashes our self-righteousness, a mirror that reveals our sinfulness and a whip that drives us to the cross. Galatians 3:24 calls the Law as a schoolmaster to teach right from wrong. Romans 3:19 reveals that the Law of God reveals all our sins and all stand guilty before it. Unfortunately, there are three erroneous ways that sinful man could look at God's Law. First, we have the problem of man thinking that they are right before the Law or that they can make it to Heaven their way  We have the problem where man hates the idea that they are not basically good or that they are good enough to enter Heaven. The idea is very wrong as James 2:10-11 says that it only takes one sin to forfeit one's entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven. Do you even think you are not safe from the list in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10? If you think you are then you are just down...

Crime, Corruption and Poverty Are Ever-Present Because We Live in a Fallen World

There are many political candidates who campaign that they will get rid of crime, corruption and poverty down to zero. While it's good to have programs that will help eradicate said problems but we have to understand the real problem is that we live in a fallen world. While one can certainly find ways to lessen these problems but the Earth in its fallen condition will be full of people with evil in their hearts. Genesis 3:17-19  And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; [18] Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; [19] In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.  Genesis 6:5  ...

The Difference Between Faith Results to Good Works vs. Adding Faith to Good Works

There's a huge argument between the Papists and the Reformers about what authentic faith is. The stand isn't just merely between Papists and the Reformers as it goes as far as Papists, anti-Catholic cults and the true born again Christians (Protestant or not) on what James means by faith without works is dead. Is James saying that in order to get saved or to stay saved that you must add faith to good works? Perhaps one reason why Martin Luther once thought of the Book of James as an epistle of straw was because it felt like the author added good works to saving faith. I remembered having a dialogue with a third degree cousin of mine who was a Roman Catholic apologist. He knew I was a former Catholic turned Baptist. I had a conversation with him and he told me that I should examine the Book of James to see good works are required for justification. The Roman Catholic view as well as the anti-Catholic cultist view tends to use James' writing to justify their heresy. Her...

No Moral Absolutes Means No Human Rights

We have the truth that human rights activists are everywhere who reject the truth that there are moral absolutes. Many of them have their idea of "Judge not and you will not be judged." As for the atheistic human activists, they tend to carry out Richard Dawkins' quote from the River Out of Eden which says that there's no good, no evil but only pitiless indifference. They think that there are no such thing as moral absolutes. So if they believe that there are no moral absolutes then why are they fighting for human rights which requires moral absolutes to determine them? After all, Dawkins just said there is no purpose but only pitiless indifference. Here's another problem with atheists' appeal to human rights. Why do they appeal to human rights when they claim that there are no moral absolutes and morality is relative? Human rights are determined by moral absolutes that God made. When God made His Ten Commandments and gave the whole Law - He made it as the s...

When God Says No, He Means No

Image
When God says no He means no! Do you know why the world is in a mess right now? It's all because Adam and Eve couldn't follow one simple rule that was to never eat of the tree of the fruit of life. I'd like to imagine it that God may have even put an "Off Limits" sign on it. But Satan himself always finds a way to convince people to break the rules. Genesis 3:1-5 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evi...
