Why Go Against Hard Liquor and Drunkenness?
Proverbs 20:1- "Wine (yayin NOT tirosh) is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whoever is deceived thereby is not wise."
We would like to write our Biblical stand on liquor. First and foremost we would like to spell out how wine is used in Greek and Hebrew throughout the Bible:
Hebrew usage from the Old Testament:
- Yayin- intoxicating wine (Proverbs 20:1)
- Tirosh- fresh grape juice (Proverbs 3:10)
- Shakar- hard liquor (Numbers 28:7)
Greek usage from the New Testament:
- Oinos- grape juice, generic (Matthew 9:17)
- Gleukos- fresh grape juice (Acts 2:13)
So first we'd like to clarify that Jesus DID NOT drink anything intoxicating or turn the water into anything intoxicating- it was plainly fresh grape juice NOT anything intoxicating. True anything from grapes does contain alcohol fresh or not it does NOT have dangerously high levels of alcohol that becomes addictive compared to rum, whiskey, beer and gin (WHICH DO CONTAIN HIGH LEVELS OF ALCOHOL HENCE CALLED LIQUOR) which is done today by adding yeast and other methods done.
So why be against drunkenness? Here may be some SCIENTIFIC facts about liquor that has been observed happen to drunk people and they are NOT pleasant:
- Hard liquor is far more acidic than grape juice causing cavities and tooth decay. Try to notice the teeth of many drunkards are usually destroyed. Most of them fail to brush their teeth because they are too drunk to even think about it.
- It causes an inflated stomach, which is VERY BAD for the heart.
- An unsound mind and body. It has happened that drunks can't think properly, can't work properly and they make decisions far more illogically than people trying to cope up with any form of hyperactivity disorder. A person with hyperactivity disorder can still reason properly if he/she is not drunk and is most likely to gladly obey his/her superiors than those who are drunk. This is also a leading cause of traffic accidents and crime rate increase.
- The heart can get overworked as the whole body's normal pace is being violated by the excessive alcohol content. The heart normally pumps at 72 beats per second but trying to go faster than that means it can wear itself out resulting to a cardiac arrest or even death.
- Should it be mentioned to a leading risk to liver disease which is really fatal? Okay NOT all who get liver diseases are drunk because it can be hereditary. However it does lead to liver diseases and most of the time, it carries with it the complications of alcoholism as well. Liver cancer is one of the leading sources of death today and drunkenness is the top reason why.
- Plus, drunkenness is a sign of being unsaved. It helps promote false religion and creates unequal yokes between Christians and unbelievers. Many of the unsaved like to get drunk and drink themselves to death. What's worse is that many of these drunks profess to be Christians but they are not. Many who are also drunk are teaching the heresy of works salvation.
So here's what- the war on narcotics is STUPID if they fail to fight against hard liquor! There is NOTHING manly about liquor- it's for cowardly fools!
