Just Say No to Man-Centered Theology

1 Timothy 4:3-4 - "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."

Just because man-centered theology is popular and liked by the majority doesn't mean it's right. Facts will always remain whether or not people believe it or they don't. Man-centered theology is very pleasing to the ears of man. Go and tell people about their total depravity and you can only expect to be persecuted. Go and tell people about how they can have their best life now and be ready to be well-accepted. It's because any doctrine that satisfies the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life is easier to accept than the doctrine of man's total depravity. Right will always be right even when nobody agrees.

Jeremiah 5:31 warns about the condition that people love to be in. The prophets prophesy falsely and the priests bear rule by their means. What should be more alarming is that the people love to have it so. When Jeremiah warned everyone about Babylon's incoming invasion he was laughed at. The majority preferred Hananiah's false prophecies. People would prefer comforting lies over the uncomfortable truth. People are too easily offended whenever their sin are exposed. It's no surprise that many of the prophets were stoned for lovingly warning people about God's judgment. Jeremiah wasn't catering to man-centered theology even for a second.

Man-centered theology fails to address the reality of what Christian life is like. The Christian life is never called to have them parade their wealth, be loved by everyone and have huge mansions and material wealth. On the contrary, Christianity may mean you may lose all as a result of it. You may lose your fame and fortune. Don't believe for a second that just because a person is wealthy that they're right with God. A lot of rich people today think that they don't need God showing that they're not right with God. While being rich isn't inherently wrong but putting one's trust in them is one of the reasons why people think they don't need God.

This start of 2017 it's time to think where is your theology centered on? Are you seeking the glory of man or the glory of God?
