Your Love for Self-Will, Self-Trust and Self-Exaltation Will Only Send You to Hell

It's really a problem where sinful men reject the Gospel. Matthew 7:13-14 says that you enter the narrow gate for life and the way to destruction is broad. It sounds very inconceivable to the human ears for this reason - it's all rooted on pride! Proverbs 14:12 warns that there is a way that seems right unto a man but at the end of it are the ways of death. How often do people do what's right in their own eyes anyway? It's stated in the very last verse of the Book of Judges that every person did what was right in one's own eyes.

So how does it start? Well, we know what kicked Satan out of Heaven, right? It was his pride. Isaiah 14:12-14 in the King James Bible uses the term "Lucifer" which also means "Day Star". I personally like the translation Lucifer better - which is why I tend to stick to the KJV by default even if there's a distinction between the morning star (Satan) and Jesus as the Bright and Morning Star. Satan thought he was going to get it. The King of Babylon is compared to Satan for that reason. Satan himself exalted his place and forgot that he was only a created being by God Almighty.

The problem is that Satan's sin of pride is so prevalent in mankind. Again, it all goes back to self. 1 John 2:16 warns about the three major areas of sin - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. Self-will or stubbornness, self-trust and self-exaltation all correlate to the three areas of temptation. Do you have the problem of self-will or stubbornness? It goes with following the lust of the eyes and flesh. Self-trust and self-exaltation are rooted on the pride of life. Many people are so proud of themselves. They think that they are good enough for Heaven. Others are so proud of themselves for their sinful lifestyles that the thought of being saved from them is repugnant. Both a love of self-righteousness and a love for sin are rooted upon self-will, self-trust and self-exaltation.

How can these send people to Hell? The love for self-will, self-trust and self-exaltation is indeed a mark of being unsaved. I'm not saying that Christians are completely free from these but they don't want it anymore. The struggle against one's self-will, self-trust and self-exaltation is real for the Christian. On the other hand, the unsaved people don't struggle with them but they are enslaved by them in one form or another. Such people may not be as boastful as the others but we can't deny that to believe that your own good works will merit you to Heaven is utterly erroneous. Others who have their love for self-will, self-trust and self-exaltation may want a wrong Jesus who delivers them in their sinful lifestyles rather than the Jesus who delivers them from their sinful lifestyles. Either way, it's damnation for such people because they lead people to reject Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
