Christianity and World AIDS Day

It's December 1 and Christmas isn't the only thing in the air. We've got World AIDS Day too. World AIDS day is an international day to help raise awareness of the deadliness of AIDS. It's a noble cause yet there's one concern that must be raised - how useless it is to have an awareness for AIDS if there's no Gospel preaching. I remembered how Dr. John F. MacArthur once preached about the dangers of moral reform without Jesus. The same can be true for any moral reform movement that only seeks to reform humanity without the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

So how are the people who usually get Acquired Immune Defiency Syndrome or AIDS? Below is a table of those who are at the high risk are the following according to the World Health Organization:

75% is really a huge number isn't it? This chart reveals that sex workers, homosexuals who engage in sodomy, drug addicts, transgenders and prisoners tend to have a high AIDS rate. Now, AIDS doesn't discriminate between sexual orientation because a heterosexual man or woman who engages in sexual immorality is at high risk too. What's even more - you have a staggering statistic that reveals that 46% of those who get aids are among those who practice sodomy and other unnatural sexual practices such as anal sex and consumption of body waste can help increase this risk. 

But why do people do this stuff that is bad for them? The Bible isn't a book of fables as pro-homosexual "rational" atheists would like to think and neither are Christians called to be homophobic bigots. Here's what the Bible says about the foolishness of sinful man:
Romans 1:21-32 
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

These people aren't saved is the reason why they do all these stuff that dishonor and harm their body even to several levels of disgusting behavior. They don't want God and don't want Him in their lives. Why do sexually immoral people do what they do? It's because they aren't saved. They knew God but they refuse to glorify Him as God. It reminds me of some atheist homosexuals who say that there's no God at one point then says that they hate God because He won't grant their wish to become the opposite gender or for rightfully destroying Sodom and Gomorrah in another. The things of the Bible are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:14).

The truth is lost people are lost in their sin because they are lost without Jesus Christ. They have no real moral compass and no genuine righteousness. Some have even gone as far as to lie that countries that allow same sex marriages have had a "positive effect" but how true is that? It doesn't matter if a country is doing well economically (such as Sodom was a very rich city during its time) if its riddled in immorality. Can you imagine if it happens that a government has to use whatever economic gains it has to spend on trying to cure AIDS or if the workforce suddenly drops because many will die from an epidemic related to sexually transmitted diseases and not just AIDS? That's why Proverbs 5:11 says that you will mourn at last when your flesh and body are consumed. Sexually transmitted diseases will consume your flesh and body!

AIDS is indeed one of the many horrible ways God judges sinful humanity and it's also one of His biggest wake-up calls for humanity to repent and turn to Him. The AIDS virus itself doesn't instantly kill. It can be seen that God is still willing to give even the most sexually immoral people time to repent. The Hyper Immunodeficiency Virus or HIV doesn't bloom to AIDS immediately. AIDS is third stage HIV. Most of the time it becomes a long, agonizing death. Yet, God in His mercy has also given many safety precautions on how to prevent one's self from becoming infected. He gave several sexual purity laws yet many people today dismiss it because it's in the Old Testament - never mind that the New Testament still condemns homosexuality just the same! God was even that serious that sodomy in the Old Testament was punishable by the death penalty and their bodies thrown out of the camp in order to protect the community!

The New Testament no longer sentences people to death for sodomy (at least at a government level) yet it's still a sin. What Christians can do is to start witnessing to homosexuals and other sexually immoral people by telling them of God's horrible judgment on sin before telling them about the Savior. Preaching salvation without showing God's Law will do no good. How can a person be convinced that he or she is a sinner if they don't know God's Law? These people have no idea of the righteousness of God while trying to establish their own righteousness (Romans 10:2). This should also involve Christian workers going to AIDS healthcare centers to witness to these people dying of AIDS, telling them that the wages of sin is death and that the free gift of eternal life is in the Lord Jesus Christ.
