If Some Non-Christian Schools Wouldn't Even Allow Playing Poker Inside Their Campuses Then How Much More Should Christian Schools Not Allow It?

It's been 20 years since incident some time ago when I was a teenager when a Christian school dared to actually suspend at least 17 students (for three days) for playing poker inside the campus. Although some crazy parents tried to reason it out that there was no money involved but they got suspended anyway. Then I entered College and observed that even if a non-Christian university or other non-Christian schools (ex. Roman Catholic and non-religious schools) wouldn't allow students to play cards and gambling in their campuses then how much more would Christian schools even allow such activity?

So what's really wrong with gambling paraphernalia in school? The school is a learning institution and not a recreational place so everything that causes distract is forbidden. Another, every little sin can pile up into a huge mess. It's just like if you don't clean up the bird droppings or dog poop then expect the whole place to get full of such dirt. Everything can start with gambling paraphernalia. They can start having a friendly game of poker then the thrill starts. The urge to start gambling happens because certain activities are always meant to be sinful and will always be evil such as narcotics trading, homosexuality, brothels, casinos and night clubs. While certain stuff that are meant for good can be perverted for evil yet what's always made for sinful activity is another issue.

Some parents however didn't want to believe that the pastor and disciplinarian wouldn't suspend the students if they were just playing poker without the use of money. Even some parents believe that gambling was really involved. He did cite all the violations that were complained over such as making the women go into the men's toilet rooms and vice versa if they lost a game. It was still a sinful form of betting. Even if there was no money involved yet one can't deny that poker cards themselves are in fact always meant to be gambling paraphernalia. One can argue I could create a gambling machine out of an electric fan (which is a neutral force) but that's another story compared to stuff that were always meant for evil such as pornography, narcotics such as shabu and intoxicating drinks.

It should be highly questionable when a supposedly Baptist family ended up objecting to the school's "harsh actions" to why such an action was even done. Yet, the only answer the pastor could come up with is that if non-Christian campuses don't even allow it then why should a Christian school allow such a sinful activity to take place. It is in Matthew 5:47 where it says that even publicans (who were known to be dirty cheaters) would even do basic moral values then how much more the Christian would even do it. It's really something to think about questioning the status of that Baptist family if they were in fact - Christians. How could the husband who claims he's a Christian even condone to certain immoral acts such as allowing teenagers to go and run wild inside the campus or the wife is a very arrogant woman who's proud of her misbehavior. Worse, she can't even make her children submit because who wouldn't go rebellious if you've got parents like that?

This should be a wake-up call for some "Christian" schools who would actually condone to playing poker. It's a shame really when the actions of unsaved people end up as a slap on the face in the name of Christianity. It's like how somebody claims to be a Christian and yet doesn't get mad or do anything but indecent dressing while the Muslim or Roman Catholic neighbor gets mad. It's like a pastor can claim to be a Christian yet doesn't do anything about parishioners who dress like the world while a Roman Catholic priest, Buddhist monk or Muslim Iman may be strictly enforcing decent dressing when attending their worship services. The same can be applied to cards. If some unsaved people wouldn't even allow such ungodliness then I don't see any reason why anybody can claim they're Christians but condone to such wickedness.
