Political Correctness is Doing More Harm Than Good to Children

Happy Children's Day 2019! A good topic to write about today is how political correctness is actually doing more to hurt than help children. Political correctness is defined as, "the avoidance, often considered as taken to extremes, of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against." Doesn't it make you wonder why the United States of America (USA) has become a nation of thin-skinned people? Now, let's discuss how political correctness is indeed and will indeed do more hurt than help our children!

There's the truth that says trying to please everyone is often is a surefire recipe to failure and that you just can't please everyone. Unfortunately, political correctness is really on that road. There are many people today protected by the politically correct agenda. While the oppression of minorities, because they are minorities (such as ethnic minorities), is indeed wrong - we can't dismiss the reality that political correctness has been defending people for the wrong reasons.

The LGBT community is indeed among the biggest beneficiaries of political correctness. Have you ever heard of homosexuals raping children? I'm not saying all homosexuals are pedophiles but if you've read your newspaper - you may read it from a homosexual nanny raping a child or homosexual Roman Catholic priests molesting their altar boys. But the politically correct would rather listen to the victim playing of the members of the LGBT. You may even have the Roman Catholic priest crying and saying he's just that friendly neighborhood priest who loves children or homosexual nannies who will deny the charges. Worse, it's a problem that politically correct people tend to commit the logical fallacy of Nom Sequitur or jump into conclusions before getting the facts! Worse, you've got stupid human rights activists who spend their time fighting off economic policies that can generate jobs and revenue for the country while fighting for same-sex marriage in their countries.

There's the problem of confusing discipline with child abuse. Spanking is biblical while beating up your child to the point of getting life-threatening injuries is not. Removing the rod from the schools and arresting parents who spank their children has caused a generation of spoiled brats to rise. The statement of "Spare the rod, spoil the child." is still very true today. Before, we have teachers who managed to exercise proper discipline by paddling children who misbehaved. Today, you've got teachers who get into hot water for disciplining children. Discipline has almost become non-existent because of political correctness. Proverbs 13:24 says that whoever spares the rod doesn't really love their children - true love for children requires discipline so they will walk in the way of the LORD. Instead, the alternatives include parental lying - teaching children not to lie while lying to them. This has resulted in the double standard where parents are, "Follow what I say but not what I do." Worse, you have the problem of disciplinarians who are easily bribable and would rather encourage victim card playing - which in turn fails to do anything to help the real victims! Then parents and  teachers blame television and video games for the violence - never mind that some children played certain violent video games and never did any criminal acts (though it's not recommended), or that they fail to consider who left the children alone to the point they don't know what they're watching or playing.

Worse, you have a new generation of very thin-skinned, easily offended children who may grow up screaming "Human rights!" for the wrong reasons. While teasing and insulting children is not good, while emotional abuse is not good but so is teaching children to be thin-skinned. I'm not saying parents should insult their children even if they should scold their children whenever they do something wrong. However, we are having so many fights taking place in the playground all because of an insult. Today, we may even have unfair libel laws where people sue each other over what's written on social media - even when said statement wasn't even life-threatening! Sure, insulting and making fun of others isn't good but there are times you just need to learn to turn the other cheek. However, we may have parents who are encouraging their children to get mad over the slightest provocations and to be petty. You may even have parents who sue their children's classmates for simple teasing when such a problem could've been taken to the disciplinarian's office. Wait, didn't political correctness just sissify the disciplinarian?

Before you're going to say, "Can't you be more like Jesus?" then let me tell you He is the most politically incorrect person I've ever known. I remembered reading The Jesus You Cannot Ignore by John F. MacArthur which highlights the politically incorrect Lord and Savior. Jesus never cared about the feelings of politically correct people. He lovingly spoke the cold, hard truth that people needed to hear as much as the prophets before Him. He pulled no punches when it came to telling people their need for repentance. He even used offensive metaphors such as calling the Pharisees as snakes and Herod Antipas as a fox. Becoming more like Jesus may mean more hatred from the world. They would surely love the Christian acts of kindness such as charitable ministries but they would hate the truth. Remember when Christians got criticized for supposed hypocrisy when they reached out to homosexuals who were victimized by the ISIS bombing? Jesus even warned in Matthew 18:6 and Mark 9:42 that whosoever offends children might as well be thrown into a sea with a milestone by the neck. Jesus wouldn't support those politically correct people who are doing more harm than good to children.
