Sinful People Want to Lock Up People Who Lovingly Tell Them the Truth

It's no secret that we're in the last days. There are already laws that will be passed and that have been passed in favor of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. One of these many provisions from these laws also say that anyone who preaches against homosexuality can be jailed for a hate crime. Is that surprising? Not really. The Bible is full of such people who were jailed for simply telling the truth.

The Apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 4:16 where he asks, "Am I therefore become thine enemy because I tell you the truth?" His life was anything but glamorous. He became a Christian and his life has been full of persecution. He couldn't avoid it. It's his life to live what the world may call the life of a loser. He wasn't living by the billions. He didn't have a huge mansion. He was always attacked for preaching the truth.

The situation is no different. Do you remember some incidents in the Bible where people got locked up for telling the truth? These two cases belong to both King Ahab and later King Herod Antipas. We read in 1 Kings 22 and 2 Chronicles 18 the account of King Ahab locking up Micaiah. Micaiah's raw sarcasm was detected. It was a warning to Ahab. Ahab could have avoided his death would he have listened. Instead, he chose to lock up Micaiah. In the New Testament, we read of the account of John the Baptist in Matthew 14:1-12, Mark 6:14-29 and Luke 3:18-19. Herod Antipas committed a double crime. History shows that not only did Herod Antipas betray his wife Phaeselis but he also had an adulterous and incestuous relationship with Herodias who was actually his half-brother Aristobulus' daughter. Talk about an undoubtedly immoral affair!

The Book of Acts is full of records of the apostles getting jailed for preaching the truth. After the downfall of Herod Antipas, we have King Herod Agrippa I who was eaten of worms. We could read of Stephen's arrest, Peter's arrest and Paul's multiple persecutions. They were all arrested for simply preaching the Word of God. The Book of Acts doesn't describe a glamorous life for the apostles. Some sources have said that Paul was actually beheaded in Rome under Emperor Nero. Some even say Peter was later crucified and was allowed to die upside-down as a final request. Many other records show the apostles lived a life of persecution. John wrote Revelation not in a mansion but in a dungeon in Patmos during the reign of Emperor Domitian.

The world today is getting more and more hostile against Christianity. They only want the truth only when it's pleasant. Otherwise, if it's not pleasant then they don't want to hear it. Today, love has been redefined as accepting their error. We even hear of how there's the call for religious ecumenism or being tolerant towards all heresies. There's even the call for inter-faith pilgrimages to know each other's religions better. It's already becoming more and more politically incorrect to declare the truth of John 14:6. Worse, anybody who preaches that Jesus is the only Way, the Truth and the Life can now be easily compared to religious extremists. What's even more wrong is that religious extremists can be more favored than Christians who lovingly tell the truth.

Right now, if the Lord doesn't return yet then it's because there is a mission. There's no doubt that the signs are already abounding. The world's hostility towards God is a sign of the times. Yet, Jesus said in Matthew 24:14 that the Gospel must be preached first. There is this comfort in a worsening world. The more persecution Christianity gets the more it will grow instead. The more it's opposed the more Christianity will fulfill the Great Commission.
