The Deadly Heresy of Preaching a Christ Who is Savior But Not Lord
It's really find it crazy how a heresy that says you can receive Jesus Christ as your Savior but submitting to Him as Lord is completely optional. That idea left me blank-faced because of the fact that Romans 10:9 says this one truth:
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Did you read that? Confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ. It's really similar to confessing that Jesus is Lord. If your Jesus is not Lord then you are not saved. I find the idea that Jesus should just be my personal Savior but not my personal Lord and Savior. That would make every Christian the personal servant of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus is Lord yet why do so many want to deny His Lordship? The word Kurious in Greek means "supreme in authority" so can you even think of accepting someone who is Kurious as Savior without being Lord? That kind of idea is incomprehensible to the Christian mind but why is it taught?
Why did the teaching that you can accept Jesus as your Savior but not as your Lord come out? I guess it's all about Antinomianism. It seeks to pervert the reality that Jesus' salvation is from sin and not to sin. Jesus is the Savior from sin so men may no longer be empowered by yet. Yet, why is it that somebody even dares to preach the dangerous heresy that you can get saved and never change at all? What happened to Ephesians 2:10 and 1 Corinthians 6:11? What happened to Titus 2:11-14 that says God's grace teaches righteous living to Christians? Are these verses so conveniently ignored? Then again, it's so easy to take the Bible straight out of its context isn't it?
The very idea of a divided Christ was so repugnant that old fashioned Christian preachers went against it. Charles H. Spurgeon preached against the idea of a divided Christ. One famous Protestant preacher named Aiden W. Tozer also preached against the idea of a divided Christ. Either you have all of Jesus or none of Him is the Gospel message. You can't just have a Savior who is not Lord otherwise you are teaching a very damnable heresy. You receive Christ for who He is - as Lord, Master and Savior and not just as Savior without submitting to His authority.
Why should we consider those Antinomians or those who teach salvation is a license to a sinful lifestyle to be false converts? A true salvation results in sanctification and not a continued lifestyle of sin. Christians may not be perfect (yet) but there is the proof of conversion when the enslavement to sin turns into a continual struggle against sin. It starts with God's grace and ends up producing good works (Ephesians 2:8-10). People getting saved forsake the life of sin or turn away from their former lifestyles. This turning from sin starts with the mind i.e. to repent of one's sin. Metanoneia means to have a change of mind which results to a change of one's purpose. How can anyone ever receive Jesus Christ as Savior but not as Lord? If that's the case then that Jesus is not the Jesus of the Bible. Such people should be considered false converts if they believe in a Jesus that is not Lord.
